Is my Beko electric oven heating element warped & catching on the fan?

Good evening moneysavers!

The fan on my Beko OIF 22300 electric oven has recently started catching on the heating element (in the top left corner - please see attached photo). As I'm pretty good with electrics (and an avid moneysaver), I'm hoping to fix it myself.

I believe that either the heating element is warped, or the motor's shaft has warped causing the two to catch. Is anyone able to advise how I can work out which it is?

I did also think the fan blades are quite big and wondered if the fan blades may not be the right part - though having checked it looks the same in other Beko ovens.

I've attached a photo for reference. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I'd loosen the element mounting screws & see if you can move it back a little & retighten.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • I actually used to have this exact same oven - & suffered the exact same problem! Literally, exactly as you described it. I'd try to move the element away a little by pushing it to the left whilst tightening the screw on the bottom right.
Nothing fixed it for long. I ended up buying a new oven - not a Beko & not a fan oven.
You could try pulling the oven out & see if the fan is properly seated by tightening from the back? I never tried this as the element eventually blew & it stopped heating.

I've taken the oven completely out and it seems the fan is seated correctly (the screws at the back are all in a fixed position). For now, I've moved the element away as you described and it's spinning freely for now. Time will tell if it warps when it's heated up and used...
  • When I did that it worked for a while, then just started scraping again. Lasted less & less time everytime I fixed it. Eventually the element gave up.
I probably got about another 9 months out of it by fiddling with it, but I live alone & only use the oven 2 or 3 times a week.

Replacing the elements / fan should be a fairly simple and straightforward job if you're pretty good with your hands. You'll probably just have to take the back of the cooker - make sure it's isolated on your consumer unit - and taking the back off. Wear gloves to take the back off as the sides will likely be razor sharp...from personal experience. I have a Beko cooker which had the top oven element die. Once I'd got the part is was a 30 minute job.
  • I have the same oven and ended up taking a hacksaw to the fan to shorted the blades by 5mm to avoid having to adjust the element position every few months.

Belated update - the heating element actually snapped as I tried to gently reposition the element, so ended up having to buy a new element anyway! £7.50 later and the oven is like new with no issues!
    Thanks everyone! 👍
  • I’m having the same issue now. Where did you get your new element from?

I just got it from Amazon...
I think the link for what I bought is the one below, but make sure your cooker is listed in the description!

A word of advice if you haven’t changed a heating element on this cooker before - I recommend using masking tape to tape the screws (which attach the element to the oven) to the end of the screwdriver, as it can be a bit fiddly, and if they were to drop as you were trying to screw them in they would drop in to the back area of the cooker which is enclosed and would be an absolute nightmare to retrieve!
