Need to move out after my dad hit me

I was trying to leave the house to go hang out with my friends but my mom kept nagging me so I accidentally called her a c*nt out of anger. I didn't mean it. I was just irritated. My dad heard and hit me with a belt on my butt and thighs around 10 times. Idk what to do. He's never hit me before. I want to move out but I'm only 16 with a part time job that doesn't pay much. I work about 20 hours a week making 8.50 an hour and I still have 2 years left of high school.

What part of the country are you in? Each county has different charities and resources that could help you. Let us know and we can try and find an appropriate one for you.

In the meantime, you could contact Childline to talk things over and see what options you have. Their number is: 0800 1111 and it is free to use.

Mom, High school? hang out, butt?

It sounds like you are based in the USA.

    This is a UK board.

trying to decide if this is a wind up or not... but...

he has never hit you before in your 16 years? how can you call your mother that by accident??

does this fall under reasonable punishment under section 58 of the childrens act? probably not, as seems more force was used than needed

no reason to leave home in my opinion, suck it up, apologise profusely to both your parents, and move on. your father, based on what you have said, is not an abuser, just protecting his loved ones. yes, may have been over the top, but if this happened to me when i was 16, i wouldnt walk for a week!

but, each to their own. we all make our own choices in life - you called your mother a nasty name, probably scarred her for a very long time as well. if you want to leave and seek help, it is up to you.

Can a 16 yo really earn £8.50 per hour in the UK?

    Idk what to do.

Apologise to your parents. Tell them you understand that you should not use that word to describe any woman because it is disrespectful.

Recognise that you are a child. It is their house, their rules, and behave appropriately in future.

Learn to control your anger. Perhaps counselling may help you.
  • sorry i'm located in the us. didn't realize this was only for people in the uk.

I am incredulous that some posters on here appear to believe that beating a child with a belt is acceptable! Appalling wherever the person lives! A word is just a word a belt leaves physical damage. My advice would be call the police and get out of that toxic environment.
I am convinced that most people who commit violence do so mainly because they have encountered it as they grow up.
I must make it clear I condemn violence in any form whatsoever.
Shame on those in here who do not.

As parental corporal punishment is still legal in the USA then it would be pointless calling the police. Whether people think it acceptable or not doesn't come into the answer. The answers need to be framed in what can be done, not what you would like to be done.

As the op said, he has nowhere to go apart from on the streets if he leaves home.
