I wanna...go to Las Vegas.

Options
Don't worry, there is a story behind it. Basically, a group of friends of mine are going to Las Vegas for a lads week next year, in April. They've invited me to go...and as it conicides with my 23rd birthday, I'm really up for it.

However, I have no clue how I'm gonna raise £2500 (at the max) that I'll need. I live at home, and despite trying to get any job (even a temp job), I'm still unemployed.

I'm gonna keep this thread updated til I make a final decision on whether I'm gonna make it or not.

So any tips on how to save/make money would be appreciated!

    Hello *Adam*

So any tips on how to save/make money would be appreciated!

You should get some tips in the 'Up Your Income' board, so I'll move your thread across.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

Can I askwhere the £2500 comes from? I recently saw some budget flights to Vegas for about £350 (although I accept it may be dearer at your specific time fo year) ... I have not checked the offers but would think that $70 (about £35) per night for a room would be sensible (nopte that is per room, not per person .. so 2-4 may be able to share). Shows can be expensive but if you are going with a group of lads I might suggest Boylesque (if it is still on) or the one in Harrahs (I think it is called 'Lido de Gay Paris' or similar). The Legends show in the Imperial is also worth a look .. not forgetting all the 'free' shows and sites to see and some of the shows Downtown. Foodwise, McD type grub is only a couple of dollars and there are plenty of all you can eat buffets for $15 or less.

Gambling, well that is up to you .. I always take about $100-150 just for gambling and expect to lose the lot (which most of the time I do).

Suggestions to earn money, what aboout washing cars, cleaning windows, cutting grass, weeding, painting, decorating etc. (whatever skills you have). A small ad in the local newspaper may help.

  • I cant see where your comming with £2500 from. 2 of us went to Vegas for 6 nights and then down to Orlando for 10 nights in Spetember. With car hire, flights fuel, all hotels, theme park tickets, show tickets and stupid shopping trips we spent £3500 for 2 of us. £1000 for flights, £300 for orlando hotel £200 for car hire, park tickets £760. We even got 3 pairs of oakley sunglasses $700 in total there.

Hotels are dirt cheap during the week $70 a night for the MGM, Paris infact most of the strip hotels. at weekends the prices go up, a lot to $200+ a night.

So i recon you should be looking at £1000 for flights and your own hotel room if you stay over a weekend at the most and your food, vegas is really cheap to eat even the all you can eat buffets £20 a person but you can sit there and just pig out if you wish. The one at the wynn is excelent but a little more expensive deserts are awesome. Steak at the rainforest cafe for 2 inc drinks and deserts cost about $40 for 2.

The exchange rate is brilliant makeing everything very cheap.

The £2500 is mainly for gambling. We're all poker players and as such will mainly be found in the poker rooms. Also, we're flying out on a weekend and coming back on a weekend, so that adds to the cost. I'd prefer to have £2500 total...but I'd settle for less.

  • tbh - is it wise to gamble £2500 when you havent got a job? surely if you could raise that money it could go to more sensible things? Im affraid to raise 2.5k id say you would need a full time job and very little out goings.

Give the mystery shopping a go - im getting about £50 a week or so in my spare time

Well, hopefully, I'll be coming back with most of it! I just threw that figure out if I have a bad run.

My main plan is to get a F/T job...just looking for some ideas to keep the cashflow in until I do!

  • The thing is to be careful with your benefits, it's benefit fraud to earn extra money and not declare it, I'm not condemning or condoning just pointing out. There are many ways they can catch you out, I'm assuming you are in receipt of JSA not IB where it could be considered therapeutic work. I hope you get there but as someone in receipt of IB, £2500 is a lot of money to gamble when you don't have it. I hope you get to Las Vegas and have a great time.

Well matched betting would do it with room to spare. But it's a total waste of money, and yes, if you can make £2500 to gamble away at Las Vegas then I thoroughly resent paying taxes so you get benefit. Sorry, but that's how it is.

I don't claim benefit, because I have no outgoings (I live with parents, they dont charge me rent as I have no job, and I have no bills), so no point doing so. Occasionally I do cash in hand jobs to tide me over, or play poker online using money I have had in there from when i was working and cashing out the winnings, but thats about it. I might try matched betting, but I'm not too confident with it yet...more reading up I guess!
