As the title suggests i'm trying to add my paypal account to my tesco bank account. I already have the debit card added but when i add the bank account it doesn't accept it. I've also tried to get paypal CS to add it manually with no success they have said the bank account isn't compatible with paypal which i find highly unlikely.

anyone else successfully added a paypal direct debit to a tesco bank account ?

fyi its not a new bank card its from 2017 and i already have a direct debit setup on the paypal account.

Completing bank funding requires the account to accept a low value Faster Payment sent using a reference used to verify ownership of the account. It also requires a direct debit to be set up on the account.

This is a full current account we are talking about, not a savings account with cashcard?

Edit: you say "i already have a direct debit setup on the paypal account". From the Tesco account?

yes its a full bank account and i have other direct debits linked to the paypal account from other bank accounts like tsb halifax etc

i'm trying to add tesco to this to be one of the three thats required for the 3% in interest. I've just spoken to tesco and they can't see any reason why it wouldn't accept the direct debit option.

I am guessing, but it could be that Tesco have wised up to why people want to link their Paypal accounts, and stopped supporting it.

EDIT: scratch that. I have just added one of my Tesco current accounts to my Paypal account. It took about 5 minutes for the 1p payment from Paypal to arrive.

My Tesco account is ancient, sort code 40-64-20. I don't know whether that would make a difference.

It's possible that the account older_wiser is trying to add has been mis-categorised as a savings account by Paypal. Perhaps it shares a sort code with other accounts that Paypal was unable to add.

Lots of faff with PP - Have you got PO, or BMids?

Better be quick anyhow - Jan's DDs get's you the rate for Feb;Feb for March; March for April... and then we don't know what rate Tesco will offer on these accounts.

I'd still set it up, though.

i'm still going to set it up if i'm able to i was able to add a radio times magazine direct debit in november to take advantage of the £1 for 12 editions sub listed on hotukdeals so perhaps your right its catagorised as a savings account. when doing it manually via phone the CS asked for my local branch address which obviously they don't have so that might be the stumbling block.

i have money not doing anything at the moment saving rates at banks are lousy already have most of the other bank accounts that have the 3-5% tesco was one i have but not using.

It might be a bit extreme, but I've switched a donor account with a Paypal DD set up and it transferred to the new account ok.

I'm using all the current bank accounts ones for the savings that are linked so no donor accounts available TSB and halifax are the other only ones that don't have decent savings but i've had them years and i have a good relationship with each and local branches.

Sure, you could consider opening a new current account with an existing bank to set up a Paypal DD and switch the account. It's quite a bit of work and would be no good for this month, but Paypal is a very good DD to have on a Tesco account given the way the T&Cs are written.
