hi currently I am pregnant with my first baby. Me and husband both work.
My question is am I eligible for the maternity sure grant. I don't receive any of the benefits listed yet but will apply for child tax credits once baby is born. so should I submit an application within 6 months of giving birth?
I work part time and my husband is working his first year so isn't paying any tax yet.
any help would be appreciated.

I think all areas of UK are now full UC so you will not be able to claim Child Tax Credits unless you are already getting Working Tax Credits. If you cannot apply for Child Tax Credits you will be able to apply for UC provided you meet the other eligibility conditions.
https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit/eligibility
You can use abenefits calculator to see what you might get https://www.entitledto.co.uk
The information on Sure Start here appears to say that you have to be on one of the specified benefits While expecting https://www.gov.uk/sure-start-maternity-grant/eligibility. However the advice on the form appears to say that you can claim within 6 months of the birth https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/749722/sure-start-maternity-grant-sf100.pdf
I think therefore you need use a benefit calculator to check your UC entitlement and then apply as soon as practicable (you will not be able to backdate) and apply for the Sure Start once your UC claim determined - if you running out of time to meet the six month limit you can apply for Sure Start before the UC claim is determined as long as you have applied.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
