Email address and phone number has been flagged as high risk for online purchases?

Options
Hello,

I'm attempting to purchase something through a retailer online that uses SagePay. The retailer keeps cancelling my order.

I've phoned up today and apparently SagePay is reporting that my email address and phone number is high risk.

I phoned up SagePay and they said that their fraud screening is managed by a third party.

Does anybody know how this works? It appears that my email address and phone number have ended up on some kind of database. I'd like to find the source so that I can find out why they are on there in the first place.

Thanks

Can't help with your questions sorry.

Have you tried a different email address (a new one with gmail etc if nec) and a different phone number, landline not mobile or vv (or a new mobile number with a £1 sim from a supermarket if nec).

If it still doesn't work then it might be that SagePay are wrong and it's some other problem entirely.

Most likely its an error of a different kind they are misreporting.
As said try a new email (ten a penny obviously) and an alternate phone number - (is a phone number mandatory? )
You could try a google on your email address. Also are you using a common URL like gmail or hotmail or is it something more niche where perhaps the whole domain has been blocked because there are some dodgy users within that? I've seen that reported before. For example, lets say fred, martha and tom, all @dodgydomain.com have been associated with fraud. Some systems will take the easy out and block <anything>@dodgydomain.com rather than each individual address. They can do that because its a niche address, so onlya few innocents caught in the crossfire, whereas that wont work for gmail or hotmail etc since they will be banning most of their potential customers
  • Also make sure the address is exactly matching with the address in Bank record, I encountered such kind of rejection from one retailer who was using SagePay. I am living in Flat and my flat address was not exactly matching completely. The sequence of my address was out of order

SagePay's website refers to their fraud screening being carried out by a company called The 3rd Man: https://www.sagepay.co.uk/support/28/36/the-3rd-man-explained

However, it seems that this company was absorbed into another one, Datacash, in 2009, before Datacash itself was acquired by Mastercard in 2010, and renamed Mastercard Payment Gateway Services Limited (https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/03430157).

As this company is registered with the ICO under the Data Protection Act (https://ico.org.uk/ESDWebPages/Entry/Z9049009), you may wish to contact them with a Subject Access Request, seeking all of the personal data they hold about you, from which you can then assert the right to correct any inaccuracies....
