Can you watch tv and record freeview?

My father has recently bought a freeview box and tells me that he's got it set up but no way can he record a freeview channel and watch an ordinary channel at the same time.
A quick google makes me believe he can if he uses a scart switcher box is this right?

He can watch analogue and use his freeview to tune into another channel and record that.

Scart from freeview into DVD/VHS recorder (subsequently into TV) and ordinary aerial into the TV lets him do the above

If you have a Freeview box with two scarts.

Connect TV scart on Freeview box to TV
Connect VCR scart on Freeview box to VCR.

To watch Freeview switch Freeview box on, if it doesn't automatically select Freeview, select the AV channel on the TV.

To watch VCR press play to view the tape, to see what it's doing when not playing, put Freeview into standby and ensure TV is on AV channel.

To record Freeview, select the Freeview channel you want to record on the Freeview box, then on the VCR select the AV channel, may be listed as AV1 or L1, then record. Then watch analogue TV through the TV.

If the Freeview box only has one scart, then it's just a little more messy, but can be done.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • Thankyou both. I think we'll sort it from that.
