Many congrats!! I am a new dad (6 months!), so its all new to me. Its the best job in the world.

I would say ensure you are as supportive as you can possibly be.

    - You will be knackered, so I cant recommend cooking lots of big batches of food on a Sunday morning and freezing them into portions for quick and easy meals. You will be making decisions when really tired. Takeaway food will make you feel grim, healthy food will give you a lift. Getting into this pattern now will make the habit easy.

    - if not breastfeeding (my wife did for 3 months), then you need a tommy tipee machine (as well as the sterilising kit for the microwave), for making formula drinks in under 20 seconds. You don't want to faff about with a kettle and cooling water down at 3am, believe me.

    - go for walks, everyday. Fresh air is good for sanity, and your wife will need it! Keep the arm around her and support her as much as possible. Do most of the nappy changes when you are at home and not in work etc.

    - Know that the first 3 months is really hard, its a whirlwind and unrelenting. Its gets easier after that, when they hopefully start sleeping longer, smile and give you some interaction back. You will forget you are tired.

    - open a junior s&s isa when they are born and an affordable DD for each month to start them off well.

    - Enjoy it!!

The advice I would give to my younger self, regardless of age (18 or 30) is save more, and invest into index tracking funds.
