So the IN10 and CU80 offences were given on the same date. I also found out that he had unpaid fines through the licence check. They were at a previous address so my ex husband says he didn’t know about the fines or the convictions. I’m thinking he lied to me, as he would have had to be stopped by police etc in order to get these convictions. But he says that he thought his EU licence could not obtain points
However I wouldn't get too bogged down in why your husband says he thought he didn't need to tell you about the convictions. Your argument is that you asked him, he said that he had none, and that you had no reason to doubt him - therefore you took all the care that could reasonably be expected of you to ensure that the information you provided was accurate. WHY he didn't tell you the truth is a side-issue; mention it by all means, but don't end up sounding like you're trying to defend the indefensible, as that will only make the rest of what you say sound less credible.0 -
Sounds like your ex thought driving around on an EU driving license made him untouchable and didn't need to abide by the uk road laws. Sorry if that sounds harsh but from all the little snippets you are providing it seems accurate.
The accident in question was in May 2018 we're you married at that time? he had convictions from 2017, when did you marry and divorce?
Wouldn't you have been married in 2017 and should have known about the convictions? If not that was a real quick marriage and divorce.
The dates of everything seem weird somehow but I can't put my finger on it.0 -
That doesn't make sense. If he judged that he didn't need to declare the convictions because of his EU licence then he must have known about them in order to make that judgement. If he didn't know anything about them at all because of the change of address, why would he think about the EU licence at all? I think it has to be one excuse or the other - not both.

I don't think it is too much to ask for a spouse to put their partners license number into the dvla site to make sure the licence is indeed clean. I'm pretty sure the insurance company could argue the need for something simple like that as against 'honey, you got a clean license?'
'Yep'
all done.0 -

"I'm sorting out the car insurance darling. You don't have any new speeding tickets do you?"
"No, of course not"
"I don't believe you. Give me your driving licence and National Insurance number so I can log into the DVLA website and check for myself... Hey calm down, I'm only... What do you mean the spare room?"0 -
So how do you think the conversation should go?

I wouldn't but then my spouse hasn't got a history of being dishonest.0 -
You cannot check an eu licence online. It has to be phoning the dvla. AND if it is another persons licence, they need to do a three-way with that person. So to expect me to go to those lengths is unreasonable. I didn’t even know how to do get my own UK licence checked online. Although it’s simple, you get a code and can access that information for a limited time before you need to use a new code.
We were married in 2015, but living seperately for a long time. He moved from his rented place in July 2017. Hence maybe why he didn’t get notification of the fines? (They were definitely unpaid because dvla said they were). Divorce was this year, after the May 2018 car incident. Still going through that process.
I think he just wanted to be able to drive my car when he needed to hence lied about the points. But also, he mentioned in Greece that police never normally apply points to eu licences. They just get warnings. Maybe that’s why he was so irresponsible about these points! I think he knew he was stopped by the police but didn’t tell me about it.
I didn’t need him on my policy and had I known about the points I would definitely not have hidden them just to have him on the policy!
Iv always been very good with admiral. If the ombudsman doesn’t uphold my complaint, I’m going to take it to court. But I can’t afford the legal costs so going to look at that legal cover I took out, or represent myself if I have to!0 -
Unfortunately for every person that genuinely didn't disclose information for whatever reason, there are thousands of people who deliberately withhold things.
Just my uninformed opinion but I don't fancy your chances much. Will he man-up and shoulder some responsibility and financially contribute?0 -

What site did you use then ?
I use the gov.uk, can access it any time and no codes are needed.0
