Butlins accomodation

I just got back from a short christmas break 27th december at Butlins. We booked last minute about 10 days before and stayed in the standard room which cost £270 for 3 adults and 2 children, plus food £540 total. While we were there we noted about 50% of the standard rooms seemed unoccupied which was odd as when we got the quote it was accompanied with the strap line only "5 remaining" as were a fair few other accommodation types

The children really enjoyed the break so thought we would look at going again same time this year but thought we would try and book sooner so we can pay off in installments. I looked online to get a quote for standard rooms only no standard rooms are available to be booked.

Used the online chat facility to ask why not/if they had a different release date and was told that they were all unavailable due to being sold out as people book early.
I replied back saying what our recent experience had been and was told it must be that I was able to book because of cancellations.

I can't see it likely they had 50% cancellations in one type of accommodation.
We can't afford to stay in the higher end accommodation but that's all that seems to be on offer at the moment.
So my question is, does anyone know if the cheaper accommodation is released at a later date?

I’ve been going to Butlins minehead fairly regularly for a few years now but usually outside the Christmas period .

I’ve noticed the prices of the accommodation I normally go for varies massively throughout the year. I’ve noticed prices for the same accommodation type for the same week fluctuate between £1000 and less than £300 .

Generally my experience has been either book very early or take a risk and book last minute.

I wouldn’t necessarily believe them when they say all of the accommodation is released for sale at the same time. I recall one year for a long period the accommodation type i was looking looking for was simply unavailable.

And then a couple of months before I would’ve gone I happened to be browsing on the off chance and the accommodation was suddenly available at a very low price. To be fair it could’ve been a cancellation as the week I was there the entire street of rooms I was in were fully booked

My only advice therefore would be have a max price you’re willing to pay in mind keep browsing until you see that and if you do book it and if not, simply don’t .

I have been butlins a few times and some of the rooms are not there when booking and after few weeks they turn up. Also the prices thet vary at times. Could also suggest u can try and book through the breakfree holidays or 9.50hols. They can come out cheaper for u.
