Insurance After 25

Afternoon all,

Just wondering what people's experience is with insurance after turning 25?

I currently ride a motorbike, (125 as still on L plates). I was quoted £1,700 when I moved house! Cheapest I've managed to get is £500 this year. If I make a claim my insurance would charge an extra fee for the privilege of being a "young rider". I've heard that insurance goes down after you're 25, is this the case?

    Yes.

Whether there are definite "steps" is another question, but it definitely goes down every year as you lose the "young"/"new" stigma, until you get well into middle age and it starts to go up as you gain the "old"/"doddery" stigma instead...

But don't forget there's a range of other factors that affect it, too - occupation, location, vehicle, personal history.

I can't wait to get over the threshold! I've been a very good rider, never had an accident. I noticed that when I changed job my insurance went down slightly! My location doesn't help either, it's not a great area on paper but I've never had anything stolen (apart from a wheelie bin), neither has anyone on my street. I

My dad is 57 and his motorcycle insurance is £75 a year! Again no claims or accidents :-) At what age does it start to go up  I think it's wrong to base it on someone's age, someone who is 65 might have higher insurance than someone who is 35 but the 65 year old is a much better driver ):
  • I found that my insurance took a big drop after turning 24. I then got a quote putting my date of birth a year earlier to see if there was another big drop after turning 25 that you always hear about, it was almost exactly the same as the one for being 24. It certainly will drop with age eventually but in my experience there doesn't seem to be a specific age. Try getting another quote changing only your date of birth and see what happens.

Just had a look, it does indeed drop! Hopefully I'll have a different bike then too!

    Insurance is an enigma.

I heard all the horror stories of being a young male driver and getting insurance. I never struggled. In a 12 month period i had a non fault accident and an at fault accident this was when i was about 23 and upon renewal (i say renewal i mean upon that year ending and looking around) my insurance came out cheaper than the year before with no accidents. Nothing else changed apart from me getting 1 year older.

Then when i moved in with OH i was without a car for a while so asked her to put me on her insurance. She was over 25, no accidents and putting me on her policy with two accidents, 3 points for speeding by that point and being a dude under 25 still actually lowered her premium. OK id been driving longer but it just doesnt fit with the young male driver narrative you hear at all.

Not just age but your home and work circumstances inc that of what bike you ride, you driving history, general claims, etc, keep on shopping around. If you have someone older that may want to use your bike at times and older than you and clean licence/etc you may want to add them as this lowers premiums.

That same question has been asked a number of times and I've yet to see a response, certainly seems odd for someone to pinch the avatar of another user immediately after they've been banned.

I thought it mightve been an AE but i checked Marisco out and there not showing as PPR'd now at least?

The posting styles seem at odds a bit too. I searched for M and didnt immediately see a thread started by them and dont remember them as being a prolific thread starter, yet Sandra seems to have started more threads than i ever have since joining.

Im thinking it might be time for my first avatar... :rotfl::A

I thought she was Marisco at first! Why was Marisco banned?
