It's all wrong. Cars are made perfectly by pressing sheet metal. Once they are bent you can't just bend them straight. Try jumping on a coke can and then straightening it out. I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole.

I am also considering purchasing a Cat N car. Is there a requirement to notify my insurance company that the vehicle is classified to be a Cat N vehicle? and if so will this affect the premiums?

There is relatively new HPI style car checking site but what they offer is also pictures of cars if it went via salvage auction Their website states they currently have access to 1.5 million records from last 3 years.

There is a lot of cars going as Unrecorded and by going just on copart.co.uk you can search for Unrecorded and some of the examples there should be at least classified as Cat S, and you can buy those later as HPI Clear.

What you can do for free you can put any reg and after you hit search they will tell you straight away if they have any salvage records for this single VRM. Check their site and see sample report which shows how they present pictures and full car history - vcheck.uk

Their FB is interesting where they name and shame dishonest sellers who claim damage was a lot lot less than in real life ;)

It's a good site but often after stripping down the car you see damage isn't what it appeared.

Does put it in perspective a bit...

Ouch! A '68' plate. How gutting is that?

<shrug> Just as likely to get bent when it's <4mo than any other time.

And a lot of insurance replaces new-for-old with a write-off in the first year...

True there is always something hidden but when someone says it was "light bumper damage" and half of the front was almost of the cars it only shows how badly described it can get...

Their sample shows it comes with full HPI and salvage history. Allows for more informed decision for sure when buying something.
