Worth appealing pcn?

I parked at a car park recently taken over by smart parking. It was around 5pm or just after. I tried several times to pay for 30 minutes parking and it kept saying transaction cancelled.
Finally realised it was saying I need to pay for a minimum overnight stay at £6.
As I was only going to be 30 mins tops I started to leave the car park.
On the way out I noticed a sign saying free parking after 3pm over Christmas. It turns out now that this sign relates to a small portion of the car park that is separate and still run by the council. However I wrongly assumed this must be the reason I couldn’t pay for 30 minutes and went back and parked.
Fast forward and my mum has just received a parking ticket for the exact same thing for a week earlier. So just waiting on mine now.
Is there any point in me appealing? Have I got any grounds to? And how can they not accept payment for 30 minutes after 5pm? Is this legal?
Any advice would be appreciated. Happy to contest using newbies instructions but is there any point?
Thank you

In short yes there is a point in appealing. You seem to have found the Newbies thread which is good. Send the blue template.

While you are waiting for the inevitable rejection get reading up on POPLA appeals in post 3 of the Newbies thread.

thay can set any rules they like on a private car park , its an unregulated industry at the moment , see this link

    https://services.parliament.uk/bills/2017-19/parkingcodeofpractice.html

see the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread for advice on appealing , as KEEPER

no blabbing about who was driving, so edit your last post accordingly, the DRIVER drove, the KEEPER received the postal papers , the KEEPER appeals it

inadequate and poor signage and instructions plus frustration of contract are your main defence points here (for popla later on if they dont cancel)
