Not sure where the day went today, but sowed some Enorma runner beans in a small bed at the top of the garden. I also sowed some Shiso, never tried it but they were Jekka branded seeds, so I couldn't resist. I also sowed some kale in the pots that had the tomatoes that didn't germinate (does that make me a bad person..?)

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

Waste not, want no. No point in wasting good compost. I do that too but whilst my tomatoes normally always germinate my beans are far more temperamental !

Be interested to know what Shiso is and how you use it.

Yesterday -not much enthusiasm as the knee hurt, at least I've got Physio tomorrow.

mainly watered and did some more containers of sweet peas, potted on my second sowing of dwarf beans - the first lot have just started to flower

Today more enthusiasm so I shall finish off planting the sweetcorn and I'm spoilt for choice with my other catch up jobs

A couple of glorious days up the plot.

Yesterday was one of those 'rip out weeds with bare hands\raaaa!!!!' type session. Pulled together all the old wood.
Today DH came up to help. We had a fire going, lots of the wood was chopped down smaller, and we got through quite a lot of it.
I had the azaeda tool going and managed to clear the ground. It'll need levelling a bit more and some membrane down and the polytunnel can be put up. I've got tomatoes, chillies, aubergines, okra and cucamelons to go in there.

Still lots of tadpoles in the pond, along with two resident frogs.
Planted out 3 courgettes, 6 celery and I'll need to sow some more kale, and squash since they've been destroyed. On the plus, my silverskin onions have germinated, and lollo rosso lettuces.

Still need a tip run mind you...

I have been working hard, little and often, between home greenhouse and newly erected polytunnel at the allotment. Today I have been out to pick up about 10 bags of horse manure, so that should get the compost heat moving! I feel a bit dejected because I have had quite a few things stolen from my allotment - yesterday my watering can, a couple of days before that my hose pipe and a large expanding crop cover, so over £30 worth of gear and let's face it the watering can is an absolute necessity. I hope to plant out all my tomatoes and peppers soon and will have some in the greenhouse and tunnel as backup. The okra and sweet potato are in the tunnel but it's touch and go whether it will be warm enough for them this summer. One can only try.

So would I - the packet mentioned tempura and my eyes lit up...

Edit: though I'm probably banned from making tempura as well

These thefts are so means and dispiriting. If you get another watering can paint on it in big letters STOLEN FROM PLOT xx.

On the allotment we had years ago produce was either trashed or stolen. Now we just have a vegetable patch and vegetable border in the back garden and grow our soft fruit bushes in the front garden where everything is secure and more easily watered.

I am going to mark everything as you suggest and I have now found a use for all those bright coloured nail varnishes I never use! My neighbour had all his well-grown vegetable plants stolen from his greenhouse, which is now padlocked. I worried about putting my own in the polytunnel still in pots, but I havent had time to dig them all in yet. You are right about it being dispiriting when you have put all the effort in over several months. With regard to the front garden, I am seriously considering it as it is very well draining and south facing. There is a covenant on the property that we can't have vegetable plots, but I bet whoever wrote that didn't know how many so-called veg are actually fruit!

That,s a strange covenant for a front garden. We have a covenant saying we're not allowed to keep poultry in our garden but having been here 40 years and the building company long since having gone into liquidation I doubt whether there is anybody who could actually reinforce it without having access to the deeds of our house which are locked away in a solicitor's safe!

Tomatoes are a fruit, and Swiss Chard, Curley Kale, carrots and mixed salad leaves can surely be grown for their structural leaves. Our front garden is behind a 3.5 foot fully boarded fence so the contents can,t easily be seen from the pavement.

And if you can,t have a formal vegetable plot in the front garden, just dot your vegetable plants in between other things and call it a decorative border! :rotfl:

Knee hurt today but I was on my feet for a good six hours so I suppose it's par for the course.

Planted out the rest of the sweetcorn, prepared a bed for my main carrots but I won't be sowing them until the end of next month so I may do a catch crop of some salad leaves as I've got bits of packets left over from past years and some radishes.

MrZ has enjoyed himself this afternoon. he's been out with the chain saw and dropped over a dozen huge conifers which border what I call the garden (this used to be a conifer nursery before we moved here) One fell on the house but only cracked a gutter so we were lucky with that. He's started to log them. I reckon it will take him a week to tidy up the mess. The best bonus is I can't believe the amount of light that now floods into the living kitchen - I can see the cobwebs:D
