Hi
I have my old and trusted laptop which I have tweaked and customised to work exactly the way I like.
However as it was getting on a bit I decided to but a better spec one and I am looking for a relatively quick and easy way (if possible) to "migrate" everything over (including the look of my desktop, shortcuts, installed programs, etc etc)
My aim is to have the "old laptop" on a newer/faster machine..
BTW both are running on Windows XP
Is it possible to do this?
Any guides of help would be much appreciated

Start->Accessories->System Tools->Files and Settings Transfer Wizard
Belarc Advisor will do a good report on what you've actually installed.
But basically you're in for a time consuming job getting all the tweaks back. I now write them down in log book
There is a rather high risk approach of just imaging the current laptop disk onto the disk of the new machine, using an external USB caddy. Put the disk back into the new machine and boot off the Windows XP CD-ROM, then run a Windows Repair to rebuild the necessary drivers.0 -
thanks for the tips.... any other ideas?
Surely this is a common problem given that so many of us upgrade the hardware regularly..?0
