So it's official!! Last week I made my final payment to my mum and dad of £233!! That means there's just the front door to pay for now and I can start to get some adequate savings together. :T :T
Things for me to consider for the next few months:
> Our mortgage runs out in June so we need to figure out what deals we can go on to. I've seen one for 1.89% with our current lender so might be easy enough to stay with them.
> In August I will be able to cancel my PCP car contract and give it back - I'm hoping to save enough to buy a reliable car outright for a few grand. It's a long story but basically this car contract isn't suitable for me anymore (I drive on the motorway a lot and the original contract was only 5k miles a year and a 1litre engine!)
> I have four different sized excursions to pay for this summer - a hen party to Blackpool, Download festival in June, a wedding in Barcelona in August and a weekend trip to Budapest in September! God being sociable is expensive.
My initial savings will be going towards these activities but after September I should be on my way to having some Healthy emergency savings! We are also still overpaying on the mortgage by £250 a month and paying the doors off the 0% credit card at £200 a month. We also started a measly savings of £30 a month in the joint account - we will be adding £70 to this in June as our final payment for the IKEA sofa goes out in May too! Woohoo! :beer:0 -
Hellooo! So today I got lovely news, my managers have given me a payrise! This will work out at an extra £200ish per month which is amazing.
I'm still living off my wage from last year before my promotion and was using the extra new bit to pay my parents back. Since this is the first month since I've finished paying them back, it means I will be able to comfortably round my monthly personal savings up to £500 rather than £300.
I'm really keen to get some savings as I don't have any and get worried about not having anything to fall back on in an emergency. Saying that, I feel like I need to look at different savings accounts and learn a bit more about them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.0 -

Thank you Moneyfordreams! It was very unexpected so it's nice to be in a company that's proactive with that kind of thing.0

Happy Tuesday! This is the mondayest Tuesday ever...:rotfl:
So we paid the final month of the Sofa off today, which is pretty exciting. I do love when a finance deal comes to an end! I know it's not best practice but it's enabled to get so many good quality things in the house without breaking the bank.
Anywayyyy! This weekend was pretty expensive, I've realised socialising just makes you skint basically. Need to keep a low profile for the rest of the month as damage control I think, this is outside the music festival and hen party I am going on! I will be needing those quiet weekends probably anyway
Things to do in June:
> Set up new mortgage deal - YBS have one for 1.74% fixed for two years and no product fee so leaning towards that one.
> Plant new Asters we have been donated (apparently they're really good for bees!)
> Swap summer clothes from the loft with winter clothes (I have too many clothes and not enough wardrobe space!)
> Look into and research best saving accounts
Hope you all have a lovely June! :j0 -
**NEW MORTGAGE DEAL ALERT**
As our deal comes to an end at the end of June, we have now chosen a new mortgage deal from YBS. We have upped our mortgage payment to £450 per month on a 1.88% 2 year fixed rate and have shortened the loan period to 16 years 10 months! Woohoo!
We are going to carry on overpaying £250 each month when we can too. Phew that's that sorted for two years! :j0 -
Ooooh luck you. New mortgage means new spreadsheet calculations and plotting!MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0
