Garage Problems
Hi All
I have posted this before but it is way down the list and i now have updates and again wanted to see where i stand.
My wife's car went into a garage on Friday 30th November due to what she said was loss of power, they looked at it and plugged it in and said that the codes suggested a slack timing chain, to do this 'belt and braces', he suggested changing both the chain and the pulleys to the tune of £650.
It took him over a week to get the job done which in itself was annoying but then he rang and said he could not start it, except for one short burst, then again nothing, this was the 7th December.
Since then all of my texts and calls have been met with either sarcasm or just plain rudeness, like 'it'll be done when its done' or 'if i knew what was up with it i'd fix it', even had one to say he 'wished he hadn't taken the job on in the first place and he cant look at it for a few days now because anything he does on it now is free and he has other work he will be paid for', I am fairly patient but my main concern now is he is going to start coming back saying it has x, y and z wrong with it to try and reclaim some of the 'lost time spent on it' it was running and starting fine when he got it albeit a little sluggish.
He said he had another tech coming to look at it on the 17th December to see if a 'fresh pair of eyes' could see anything they have missed and i still don't know what the results of this were.
The car is a 59 plate Peugeot 207 1.4 vti petrol (before anyone says, yes it is a chain).
I went down there one night just before the christmas break and it was inside the garage (he wasn't there (his mate said he'd popped out, funny as he knew i was coming
), the bonnet was up and plug covers off, plugs all out with all sorts of wires and gizmos attached, I have photos but I don't know how to insert them, i also noticed at this point that engine was wet, presumably bonnet had been lifted outside as it was raining when i got there.
He just ignores the phone calls now basically, If i text him it takes him a couple of days to reply and its always i will call when i have an update. If i say anything that sounds remotely like a complaint he starts moaning saying he has other 'paying' work to get done and he has a timing tool on hire costing him £25 a day and its now costing him to do the job.
Obviously we had Christmas but he still has the car, absolutely no joy in getting in touch and one really cheesed off wife ferrying the kids around in the garages Chevrolet (Daewoo) Matiz.
Any advice on what we should do and what are rights are here or even has anyone had a similar issue before would be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.
