Please read the advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau to ensure you don't miss anything out.

Is this better than trying to use cheap energy club?

I would follow the CAB advice and if you want an impartial price comparison service well they have one too.
It is link to from their pages or direct at https://energycompare.citizensadvice.org.uk/
The problem with price comparison sites is that they do not have to show all the market so can hide cheaper offers. After all they get paid by switching you and the cheaper firms do not want necessarily to pay those referral fees.
So go to an impartial site such as the CAB and when you find a company and tariff that you want, have a look at the other price sites for cash back offers. Again the cheaper firms tend not to offer cashback.
Also some company's give cash from referrals instead of switching site cash back so have a look at the MSE referrals board too to see if your chosen company has cash from referrals. You can find it here

Hi,
chill, don't panic.
You don't know what your usage will be, gas or electricity.
Take daily readings, after a month you will have an idea of usage, remember at this time of year you will be using more for heating.
A month or two on a higher tariff shouldn't break you, then start searching.
Good luck.0 -
Before you do anything, you need to take opening reads, contact the existing supplier, and register for an account. You can't begin a switch until you have done this, because you won't have an account to switch from.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
