How to pay for car ?
thinking of buying this from dealer
https://www.motors.co.uk/car-51770622/?i=7&m=sp
yes I know 'overpriced' for an 54 but the work done it attracts me. Any thoughts please
How to pay ? Should it be £100 on credit card and rest on debit card ? Why ? What protection do I get this way ? Thanks

Why credit card? It's because you will then get the protection of a Section 75 claim should anything go wrong, as a credit card company will be equally liable if there's a breach in contract.0

You don't even have to put £100 on the credit card (common misconception), any amount will give you S75 protection for the full amount paid. And give that it's a 14 year old Disco you might well need it!0

Oh dear, cant see that being on my shopping list.
Its 14 years old so your CC protection will take that into play if anything goes wrong with the car. Or should that be when something goes wrong.
Brakes and balljoint advisories so it will already need some work in the near future.
When getting insurance quotes the main comparison sites will probably say no when you tick that box to declare the mods.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
"Its 14 years old so your CC protection will take that into play"
why would the age matter re protection ?
Adian Flux will take it on board declaring the mods.
thanks for replies. Also looking at Mitsib Outlanders, Volvo XC90s £8000 ish/080 -

Because the credit card companies are not going to be forking out thousands of pounds to fix a 14 year old car when it falls apart.
Section 75 covers things like breach of contract (say for example the dealer said the car was in perfect condition and fully serviced and you found out after purchase it wasn't), a sold as seen knackered old car is obviously going to fail sooner or later and they won't pay for thatSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

The Discovery has a reputation for poor reliability and you want to pay over the odds for a 13-year old example with over 100K on the clock. My advice would be to make sure that you have plenty of money in reserve for the running costs and inevitable repair bills.0

This. I wouldn't touch a Disco that old (or any age TBH).0 -
Any amount they pay will be based on the average value for that age of Disco with that mileage on which is effectively sub £2000."Its 14 years old so your CC protection will take that into play"

Personally even though it has had that work done it was done 30,000 miles ago so not one single bit of it is under any kind of warranty any more and unless the dealer has all the receipts to prove it was done you have only their word. More importantly though you have an offroader which has been used as an offroader with a 15 year old chassis and floorpan noted for rust. Personally I think the dealer is a chancer. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
