Advice please - Storage heaters nPower price increase

  • The simple answer is that your father is close to "spot on" with his observations. I (in my late 60's) have had similar problems to those experienced by your parents, but with SSE. Suppliers have extreme reluctance, and no incentive to facilitate switching customers to better deals.

I have no choice of fuel other than electricity (ie no gas available) for everything and have storage heaters throughout my 2 bedroom detached house. I think we use on the lower side of "average" as we are quite energy conscious but SSE anticipate around £2100 a year! At least twice what we paid at our previous, larger house.

I have a 3 reading (high, night and storage) meter which makes changing supplier difficult and no price comparison web site wants to know! As well as the meter change my house wiring would probably need changing. I therefore have no alternative supplier unless I pay for the necessary changes.

The recent "cap" as far as I can see is a load empathetical tosh. Basically, unless I really want to and can afford to revise my "heating system, I am STUFFED.

Incidentally, there is no such thing as a "high efficiency" storage heater - what goes in comes out eventually. If anyone knows differently for any of my criticisms, I'd like to know!

Has as you father asked for a SMART meter? Despite repeated requests from SSE that I get one, whenever I ask for one I'm told that they're not "available yet". More tosh!

They don't do email unfortunately. ...............

You can contact nPower on their behalf - you may need a letter of authorisation from your parents.

    Time to consider POA's ??
