Smart Meter reading Different from Actual Meter Reading

Hi, I have just sent through meter readings for my Octopus Energy gas and electric account. I checked my electricity meter and then checked the smart meter. I have two different numbers showing- 19275 on the meter, and 17893 on the smart meter. Which one is correct? I assume the actual meter, but wondering why the smart meter would be so different.

Thanks

The "Smart" meter is the actual meter. Are you assuming the In House Display (IHD) is the Smart meter?

The readings on the IHD are usually only an approximation.

Octopus use Liberty Secure smart meters. On the electric meter itself, not the IHD ,be careful to read only the total kwh s reading which would be 7 digits before the decimal point.Gas meter IHD shows kwh s which would be 11.2 times more than the M3 reading on the meter
Most Secure Liberty 100 electric meters also show a completely useless reading for Kvarh..This is not needed for any domestic supplies in the UK.
  • Should be the same for electricity on the actual smart meter and on the house display. The only confusion comes with gas, as the in house display only shows Kwh and not the volume in m3.

I have a Secure Liberty 100 with Pipit 500 IHD. This was installed by Ovo some years ago. I have switched supplier three times since then and the IHD always displays exactly the same cumulative figure as the smart meter. However, not surprisingly, the tariff and billing information shows zero.

You do need to check that the smart meter and IHD are talking to each other by checking that the wireless symbol in the top left hand corner is showing as connected. Also, if connected, the time and date are correct as it gets this from the meter.
