Good evening,
I recently ended a tenancy but was unable to remove all of my possessions from the property before the moving out date due to financial difficulties. I am well aware that I am at fault for this and have offered to pay a weeks rent extra to cover the week until my stuff is able to be moved out. My ex landlord however is demanding a full months rent and withholding my possessions unless I give them the money. I absolutely cannot afford this - I'm going to end up in the same position and unable to pay to get my property removed. I've even offered to give them a full months rent at a later date to keep them happy but no deal. It's not a lot of items - about fifteen or so bags, a mini fridge, and a box of books. I'm panicking though because a lot of them have sentimental value and I don't want to lose them, but they refuse to accept I simply can't afford the money.
If anyone could offer any advice I would very much appreciate it.

Your landlord can't throw them away immediately

But can reasonably do that once they have informed you. You do not have to pay rent to them, however if you owed rent before you left, this complicates things.
I'm afraid you have to try and get enough money to move the stuff, get some friends and a lift to transport it they mean a lot to you.
Look at it in the LL position, they cannot rent the place with your stuff lying all around can they?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Did they protect your deposit? If so, tell them they can take reasonable 'storage' fees out of it (you can always dispute it if it goes beyond 'reasonable')?0

I didn't owe them rent - the tenancy ended on the 28th and I am able to retrieve my things on the 4th, so a week after my tenancy ended.
I have a van booked to go and collect them but they are saying they'll allow the items to be picked up once I pay them the full months rent for the extra week some of my things where there, which I don't have.0 -
The correct notice was given and the tenancy was ended on the date agreed.0

I would suggest you forward them csgohan4's link above, they are absolutely not allowed to withhold your belongings from you, even if rent was actually owed (which is debatable in this situation). The law is quite clear on this point and is 100% on your side.0
