Humax box

We have a Humax foxstat HDR box, we have had it for a number of years, recently it has stopped recording, how can I check the amount of space left on the hard disc. We do not have many programmes recorded but some of them are 2 - 3 hours each, I am wondering if the hard disc is almost at capacity and thats why it will not record.

My husband set it to record several programmes over the holiday which it did not record.

I got him to set it today and it has not recorded the set programme.

  • I have done that list 16% of the disc used any suggestions. I have checked the connections they are fine.

It has been working fine until just recently.
  • Does it fail if it is powered up when the recording is due to start, or only if it is on standby ?

We have a humax freeview box, and one that that happened a couple of times was that it lost track of time while on standby. But it was fine as long as it was on. (Was obvious because it displayed ---- rather than time while on standby.)

Does your device do pausing of live tv, and does that feature work ?
  • The times it has failed before was when it was switched on. It was the same today, The box was on when my husband set it, he did not switch it off just left it, Not sure about the pausing live TV.......

OH has set it again to see what happens.......
  • I guess the other thing to try is if it has a "record now" button, rather than relying on using the timer.
  • I got OH to programme a programme at 7.30, the box was on and it did not record.

I will try the record button tomorrow. We use the box mostly to record programmes that are on late at night, so it looks like we might have to shell our for a new one. Not happy.

Can you play anything you recorded before?
Do you leave it in standby/on overnight (you really ought to for housekeeping)?

Try calling the number on the website.

Sounds as if the hard drive is failing though I'm no expert - just had two Humax boxes fail and lost a load of programmes (under 15% of capacity). Both were under warranty with JL so got them replaced, it seems that there's now a resolution to that particular problem. I'm sure that a call to the professionals will help.

Don't despair, your box most likely just needs a reset like most computers do every now and again.

Menu > Setup > Factory Reset > Yes to reset, default pin is 0000 (four zeros) unless it has been changed.

After a reset any scheduled recording will need to be re-scheduled.

Ensure that the box is always left in standby overnight, otherwise channel changes will not get stored and it will progressively get more and more out of date.

    Happy new year to all.
