For those who got paid a week early

Options
The same thing happened to me, I got paid a weeks ESA today when my payment isnt due till the 8th. After an hour waiting on the phone I finally got through and the lady said its a computer glitch, you will get a weeks payment next week as well and then it will return to normal fortnightly payments.

The ESA helpline now has a recorded message about the early payment issue, they say it has been caused by a technical issue. :D

My payment is due 9th January. Today (02/01) I have been paid £112.05 which is not even half of my weekly amount, so that is rather bizarre... my weekly amount is £227.45 (fortnightly £454.90). The question I am now asking myself is shall I ring or wait to see what hits the bank next week - I only spent 45 minutes on the phone last week chasing my missing £10 Christmas Bonus (2nd year running!) which also went in today, not sure I can face the long queue again! :p
I'd leave it until the date you were supposed to receive your money. If the amounts don't add up then ring them. As the message said, it's an error and it will most likely correct itself next week.
  • Many thanks for the info

The ESA webpage https://www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/what-youll-get now includes the following note
If your ESA payment is due in the week starting 7 January 2019, you might be paid half of it early in the week starting 31 December 2018. The other half of your payment will be paid on the correct day. Your next fortnightly ESA payment will be paid as normal.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
