ESA claim date!

Hi, I understand that the ESA benefit year starts on Sunday 6/1/19. Should my Dr's Medical Certificate also be dated from 6/1/19? I am confused as Dr's normally only start a new cert on a weekday.
I don't want to lose a week in my claim for the sake of 1 day, neither do I want to invalidate the claim due to my cert having a date in the previous benefit year.
Thank you.

What esa benefit year! There's no such thing. Your sick note needs to be dated from the day your last one ran out.0 -
If it is a new claim, the certificate should be dated from when you saw the GP. If it's a repeat certificate it should run from the day after the previous one ended.0

The Benefit year has no relevance for Fit Notes or ongoing ESA claims. The only difference the Benefit year makes is for a new claim made upto 6th January the National Insurance contributions test will look at April 2015 to March 2017, after 6th January it will look at April 2016 to March 2018.
In the case of anewclaim made after 6th January with a request for backdating to a date before 6th January I don’t know which year they use.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
