SSD all the way. Though what no one has mentioned is that you do not need even need to remove your old 1 TB HDD. You have two bays for storage, so you can simply swap the cables over to the SSD, leaving your original HDD right where it is.
Then clean install Windows 10 to the SSD(don't clone anything from the old HDD).
Then you can connect the old HDD to the Motherboard(you might need to buy a SATA cable for a couple of pounds) and use it as secondary storage..

In this case you can buy a an even cheaper SSD(as little as £20), as the SSD will be utilised for the day to day running and the old HDD for extra storage.

I picked up a few Crucial BX300 120GB SSD for £20 recently, though they may be hard to find now.

The slowness in this thread's case is hardware related, no software solution will fix that.
Who said its hardware related? A new ssd hard drive might be faster but they will also be accompanied by a new OS install which will be faster than a used and bloated install.

The cheapest and most sensible first step is clean up what you've got.

Pointless thread as the op vanished immediately after starting it.
  • "Slow to browse the internet" you say. I'd be willing to guess that's what you use it for mostly, right?

    If so, pay nothing!

Have a look into Puppy Linux (https://www.puppylinux.org), you can burn the operating system as an ISO file to CD or USB device, then just use the laptop for browsing, for free.

Just earlier today I've used it to breathe new life into a 10 year old, second hand refurb with 1Gb RAM which doesn't even boot Windows 7 anymore after a failed factory reset. BTW the laptop I'm talking about is lower spec than you'd find on many smartphones these days! It now manages to run and keep up with Youtube videos.

While I wouldn't suggest expecting to use it intensively due to a general lack of familiarity, it is a very good functional solution for extending the life of old hardware struggling to keep pace with today's expectation.
  • Mostly all suggestion given above are true to core. You should try those. In addition to them, you can also try to clean all history clearing all temp files and prefetch and then restarting the computer again. You can do this by: Go to RUN (Window + R) > type 'temp' > clear all data permanently.
Again, Go to RUN > type '%temp%' > select and clear all data permanently.
Once Again, Go to RUN > type 'prefetch' > select and clear all data permanently. (it may ask for your permission)
    Hope this helps..!!
