My daughter's HP laptop display has started to misbehave. The main symptom is horizontal lines flickering across the screen. The display also seems to flicker upwards at regular intervals leaving a very thin white line at the bottom.
All drivers are up to date, according to HP Support Assistant. I no longer have a monitor I can plug in for diagnostic purposes.
Is there anything else I can check before I have to struggle with HP support.

Try changing the resolution/refresh rate on the laptop, just to see if the lines go away0

If the lines appear before Windows starts to load then screen or graphics card (more likely screen). What's the HP model number please?0

You can see the lines flickering across the HP logo on the splash screen as soon as the boot sequence starts.
The model is 15-bs559na.0 -
Yeah the 15-bs559na is integrated graphics so that's a problem with your screen.
That laptop has HDMI, you can connect it to a HDMI TV. If the display issues vanishes when you connect it to the TV, then the screen in the laptop needs replacing. If it follows, it's a graphic fault.0 -
Just to note that after all the suggestions the issue went away, for now. I assume it will reappear sooner or later, probably shortly after the warranty expires.0

If it's gone away, it's likely that what's damaged is the ribbon cable that gets twisted every time you open and close the lid (or it's simply loose).
Not too difficult to replace or check, but might want to ask someone to do it, if you've never opened a laptop.0
