I’d like the option of being able to reduce my payments again for a few months. These are exceptional circumstances, however, if they had to do that for me they’d have to do it for everyone, and the unscrupulous loafers of society would take advantage of this and abuse it.

But im wondering where I stand legally.

BIB and that's where any sympathy for you or desire to help went out of the window. You are apparently far too self-centred to listen to people telling you that your circumstances, while unpleasant for you, are by no means unique or exceptional. How many of the 'unscrupulous loafers' you feel free to despise were actually just like you - jogging along very nicely until something happens they had not foreseen and could not plan for?

You probably don't even realise that to many people you are now one of the 'unscrupulous loafers'...

My job is working for a homeless charity as a therapist for people with addictions. I neither despise nor look down upon people who have genuinely suffered.

The point I was trying to make is that I’m not someone who’s claimed benefits their entire life when they ARE ABLE TO WORK, nor am I someone who pops off to brighthouse at Christmas to get a new TV cause I want it now but can’t afford it EVER.

The point I was making was I’d taken one loan in my life, it had to be adverse as I needed a car for my job and a previous partner had a severe gambling addiction that I knew nothing about and I spent 10 long years paying off over £25,000 of debt he took out in my name aswell as loosing my home. HE and the likes of him are unscrupulous loafers who are more than capable of working, but their expertise lies in fiddling the system instead.

The company are extremely understanding about my current situation. They have agreed to reduce my payments for the next 3 months to an affordable amount, until my surgery and my chemotherapy is complete.

They’ve allowed me to do this as I’ve never missed or been late with a payment. When I needed a bit of breathing space last year for the 4 months at reduced payments after my baby was born and spent months in intensive care, those arrears of £670 ( of which I paid back and didn’t need to add to the end of the term) and then restarted my payments as normal have allowed them to fairly assess that I’m doing everything in my power to keep up my Payments and we can revisit the situation if needs must.

However I’ve never been out of work, so after my treatment is complete finding work , thankfully should not be too difficult in my industry and I can return to my normal payments and clear the arrears.

Well done to the finance company for understanding the situation and giving you some breathing space. hopefully it'll give you room to deal with your health problems without worrying about whether your car will be repossessed when you get back.

Sorry you've had an unpleasant experience on MSE. Most people are helpful here without being judgemental, so i hope you do find your way back here if you need further help :)

I think some of the replies from people meaning to be helpful have come across as condescending, although i do have some sympathy for the posters, as there's usually at least a thread a day from a new member asking how they get out of paying xyz debt as they didn't read the contract and don't want to pay it any more!

Obviously your situation is different, and hopefully people will think a little more before writing responses that can be taken the wrong way.

I hope your treatment goes well OP and that you have a good 2019

There is only one rude and judgemental poster on this thread, but I wasn’t going to personally name him. However, there have been a few ‘SO YOU DONT WANT TO PAY BUT KEEP THE CAR’ remarks
    .
Which is not for a second a thought in my mind!

Also remarks about how I got in a situation of purchasing a car in this way in the first place from a sub prime lender.

    Which again- not really helpful.

I stayed very clearly at the start car cost was £6800. INTEREST WAS Over £7000, totally was over £14,000 and I’ve paid nearly £9000 already!

If I genuinely was out to rip a finance company to shreds or not pay my debts I’d have done it before paying £9000.

And the person who told me to hand the car back or find a job, I have a 5 month old newborn, have been diagnosed with cancer and having to now have major surgery- JOBHUNTING NOT MUCH OF AN OPTION RIGHT NOW!

Calm down, people are only trying to tell you what you dont want to hear.

    Glad they sorted it anyway.

To be able to offer solutions to problems, people need more information. If there are holes in the opening post with lots of missing details then people will try and plug those gaps and do their best to decipher the scant details offered.

If the original poster is already in a distressed state when arriving here, they are not going to appreciate short sharp responses, which they perceive to be patronizing and unhelpful, even though the contribution is meant to be well meaning.

As what happened here. The original poster held back important details in the beginning, and by the time they came to light, the damage was done.

People on the whole are generally very helpful on this forum, and on Debt Free Wannabe, because many of them have been in similar situations. It is very hurtful when an OP snaps back when the suggestions offered are not to their liking.

No need for name calling at all. I will excuse OP's who are a little bit snappy, but they could help themselves by being more upfront and honest about their circumstances.

I hope this OP is able to find a way through her difficult time.

You don’t know what people are going through, try being a bit kinder in your tone and less presumptious that people are trying to scam and not pay for things.
These are exceptional circumstances, however, if they had to do that for me they’d have to do it for everyone, and the unscrupulous loafers of society would take advantage of this and abuse it.

That sounds judgemental and presumptuous to me.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
