Heating a empty flat

Options
Sadly my mom passed away at Christmas so her flat is now empty till things are sorted

My Moms flat has a Gas combi boiler , radiators with TRV valves

I'm not sure the best way to stop any problems with pipes freezing etc

I was thinking of leaving the Gas combi boiler running 24/7 and setting the room temperature to 13 c

Also turning all the rads to 3 out of 5

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sorry if in wrong forum

Thanks

Do you have a thermostat? Keep all valves fully open and thermostat to maybe 13 or 15 degrees

I'm sure someone will be along to confirm .

The other option is to turn off the water & drain the system .

    Sorry about your loss

Does the boiler have a room thermostat - if so, set that to its frost watch setting, or the minimum temperature, with the boiler set to run 24/7 when called by the thermostat.

In each of the rooms, set the TRVs to either 1 or frost watch. If there's a water tank in the attic, then I'd set the temperature in the room under that a bit higher, to leak some heat up into the attic.

Other thing to check, if there's an outdoor tap, is either to insulate it or turn off the isolating valve and drain it.

Also you can reduce the temperature dial on the boiler to about a third of maximum.

If the boiler has a setting to keep some tap water warm so it flows warm from the taps quicker, then you can turn it off. On the Worcester-bosch here it is a button labelled ‘eco’ behind the flap. When the light is on, the preheater is off.

Sorry to hear of your bereavement

If it's in a block of flats don't worry about it too much, the other flats will keep it warm enough.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Drain the system, turn the water off at the stopcock, that's the mains coming into the building, open the taps until the water stops and your safe from pipes bursting.

No point in paying for energy you will never use.

Popped up to flat tonight as forcasting frost tonight

Turned off the pre heat of water using the ECO button on the Worcester boiler

All of the TRV are set to 3

The room thermometer is set to 13c and set to be on 24/7

The boiler has a dial for radiator heat which was set to full , have set to half way

Do you recon the above is ok or do I need to change anything else

    Many thanks for your help

Should be fine could even go a bit lower on the temp.
I did have ours set at 5c for when away, upped it to 10c this year.

if you are going to be going round to do stuff in the flat heating the place up to more comfortable it will probably take a few days of really cold to drop down to where the heating comes on.

    Sorry to hear this.

Keep the thermostat at around 13 as you said, that should be fine to prevent pipes freezing and condensation at bay. Try and vent the flat for an hour/day, ie open the windows.
