Vauxhall not honouring warranty

All,

First time i have ever posted on anything like this! Wonder if anyone has any advice on the matter please. I purchased a Vauxhall Astra in Feb 2017 (car was a 2016 plate) and in Feb 2018 - the navigation / infotainment system stopped working. The garage said it was a software fix that they couldn't do themselves and had to come centrally from Vauxhall. I have chased over the last 10 months but keep getting fobbed off by Vauxhall - who say they are working on it, no date yet and no compensation.

What is the best course of action??

Any help much appreciated.

What symptoms ? Why can't they just replace the head or control unit?

Could well be correct - have you tried raising with Vauxhall rather than the dealer? DUTR - if it's software related, chances are a replacement would haven the same issue?

It's a 2-and-a-bit year old car. It should still be under manufacturer warranty, so it should be resolved at no charge to you. If they are unable to resolve quickly, then it may be an issue somewhere deeper into the car's computer system.

You'd had the car for a year when the fault came up, so there's no grounds for complaint under consumer rights legislation.

And there was me thinking goods had to last a reasonable length of time, and that consumers had up to 6 years to seek a remedy from the retailer!
You're saying that after 12 months has passed, a retailer doesn't have to do anything to help with a faulty vehicle?

    Software where?
I would imagine that the software for the nav is in the head unit or in a separate unit .
The OP has described the symptoms plus they mention Vaux UK are aware but have no resolve?

The car still drives quite happily, and is perfectly road-legal. There's a glitch of some kind with the nav/infotainment.

Yep. But "the retailer" is not Vauxhall GB - it's the individual dealership the car was bought second-hand from. The OP is seeking a repair from Vauxhall under the warranty. That's very separate to their consumer rights.

Only if the fault can be proven to have been present at the time of purchase.

Have Vauxhall point blank refused to repair or have they said they will repair but can't find a resolution yet?

    1) They only have to repair faults that were present at manufacture or in the case of second hand cars, point of sale.
    2) After 6 months the onus is on you to prove it was a manufacturing fault/present at time of sale.
    3) There is no automatic right to a transfer of manufacturer's warranty or retailers guarantee and unless stated it is transferrable a warranty or guarantee dies when there's a change of owner.
    4) Any claims are made against the retailer, not the manufacturer so the claim is against who they bought it from, not Vauxhall.

It's unlikely that it matters where the software is, because the issue is that it needs an update that Vauxhall have not been able to provide.

The OP has not described what the issue is, and if the retailer hasn't put in a warranty claim to Vaux UK, then Vaux are unlikely to be interested.
