CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE? I have an Automatic Ford C-Max 2.0ltr Ghia 2007 that I came over from Spain in when I lost my husband earlier this year and I desperately need to register it back onto British plates. I've downloaded the forms from the DVLA, but can't make any sense of them at all.
Does anyone have any experience of importing cars back into the UK who could help me and give me some advice please?? Val

You need to get a V55/5 from DVLA.
Since it's over 10yo, you don't need a certificate of compliance, just an MOT - if the Spanish ITV was after May this year, that's valid (but only for one year). If not, you need to get it MOTd here. You will need to get the headlights changed to left-hand dip, and if it's a single rear foglight, moved to the right. You're meant to get the speedo changed to dual mph/kph, but it won't be checked.
Insure it in the UK on the Spanish plates - the insurer will want you to give them the UK plates as soon as they're known.
Then complete the V55/5 (how-to), and send it to Swansea with the Spanish paperwork, the first reg fee (£55) and the price of 6 or 12mo tax. Some of the fields on the V55/5 will be irrelevant. Just fill in as much as you can from the Spanish paperwork.
Then sit back and wait.
You'll get a V750 certificate of entitlement with the UK plates on.
Use that to get the plates made up, fit them, and tell your insurer. You'll get a V5C shortly afterwards.
Then drive it here legally, for the first time since you became resident here.0 -
Thanks for that Adrian. I have the forms, just don't understand them at all.
They seem to ask for so much information and I'm not sure what I have to fill in and what I don't. I'll have a go and see what happens. So first do English insurance and MOT - thank you again and fingers crossed for me

The really important stuff is make/model/engine size/body type/vin/engine number/co2/first reg date. That'll all be on your Spanish paperwork. Just fill those in, and let DVLA copy anything else over.0
