New laptop suggestions?

Sorry, I imagine this is a very common question, but I’ve searched through the first 5 pages of threads and couldn’t find a similar one so hope you don’t all mind me asking this...
I need a new laptop. I don’t want to do anything advanced with it, mainly just:
- standard Microsoft stuff (word, excel)
- backup photos
- play internet poker (and run other poker software)
- watch Netflix
Because of the poker software I assume this would rule out a chromebook. I want it to be fairly light/portable, so maybe 11’ or 13’ screen. Very happy to go second-hand/refurbished. I have an external hard drive so doesn’t need that much space. I just have no idea where to start - so many options!
Ideally I don’t want to spend more than £250 - possibly £300 at a push. That possible?
Thanks very much

Depending on how much word / excel you intend to use check out the Lenovo 2 in 1. Basically a win10 tablet that you can attach s keyboard too. I use one with office 365, but use it more for skygo and prime video. The one I use is about 3 or 4 years old now picked up for £150 in John Lewis sale. It came with windows 8.1 but I was able to upgrade to win 10. Spec isn’t great though as you’d expect at that price point, but it’s great for watching movies. You could get the Lenovo yoga ones for that price I suspect higher spec. Or a refurbished Dell from eBay ?0

Thanks very much. There seem to be loads of refurbished ones on encore-pc for under £200
Any idea what spec I should be looking for?

Doesn't really matter for what you're going to be using it for. Pretty much anything made in the last 10 years is up to the task. If you're going for a Windows laptop though I would get one with a SSD drive. However given that SSD drives are fairly cheap and can be found sub £35 now it wouldn't be the end of the world if you had to get a SSD drive and reinstall the OS.This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
