Newcastle Hotel room £0's - Booking confirmed

I was searching for a room in a certain very nice hotel in Newcastle which I have stayed in several times and found rooms that came up with the price of £0.00, This was through the hotels own website, so no middle man .
I have booked a room for middle of January and received confirmation of the booking from the hotel which states total cost of my stay is £0.00's and prepayment of £0.00's .
I read all t&c's, room is non-refundable, non-transferable and full payment upon booking, so my total stay of £0.00's . All reservations require debit/credit card guarantee upon booking , I entered my card details as usual . The hotel also has the right to cancel the booking in writing should all or any substantial part of the hotel is closed beyond their control, or if the client has failed to make the pre-payment mentioned above.
Obviously I think there may be a glitch on the hotels website BUT where do I stand with this booking ? I have made the pre-payment of £0.00's as stated and paid the £0.00's room rate as stated .
Does the hotel have to honour it at the £0.00 price ?
It's all a bit sketchy when I search the internet for advice.

this used to happen sometimes when I worked in travel industry. Once they realise their mistake, they will cancel your booking I would think.

I do believe it is a glitch with the hotel site, although there are rooms for the same month with prices on the calendar .
It would be nice though if it happens to be right .
I know free rooms usually come with the agreement of buying breakfast and dinner in the hotel, though this is not the case with what I found.
So, I will wait and phone the hotel to confirm the week before if they don't email me with the mistake .
I'm sure a few people will now be hunting Newcastle for the rooms .

I think the hotel are within their rights to cancel the booking citing pricing error and that the customer would be fully aware that what they were booking at £0.00 is an error.


However if I were running the booking system at the hotel I think I would be inclined to contact the customer in this case and politely point out that while it was a glitch the hotel would stand by it if the customer were to consider buying a meal on the evening, in a word compromise. That way the hotel gets a happy customer and the customer feels like they are getting a cool deal.


Perhaps when they do cancel you could suggest something along those lines.
