Old Style Daily Saturday 29th December

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:
I thought I would start us off as I have been wandering round the internet for a few hours now so it is officially morning time :).

I haven't got too much to write about as things are going ok here. Lee had a good Christmas this year so hopefully we can put the past behind us now. Lilly and Phoebe also had great fun with their presents. Lilly asked for a bow and arrow set so she has been practicing every day although she is covered with bruises and has swollen fingers from it. She will persevere until she gets good at it which is a trait I really admire in her. Phoebe had a new tv and xbox so we haven't seen too much of her between that and her working.

I have signed up for a 6 month package with nutracheck which is a useful calorie counting website and app. I continue to have pretty severe health issues because of my weight so I just need to keep on with losing it. Lee has also joined up to lose some weight and support me. We have spent quite some time meal planning for the next month. I started in all earnest straight after my Christmas dinner and so far have stuck to it like glue. I am only going to aim to weigh myself once a month though as I get quite obsessed otherwise and then get disheartened when the numbers don't go down quick enough.

We are having salmon pasta for tea tonight which is a new dish to us but sounds lovely when my friend makes it. I will have to go through the fridge and freeze some stuff especially cheese as we have too much to use before it goes off. I have also bought lots of fruit which is in a bowl within grabbing distance so I have been eating a lot more of that.

The washing is nearly up to date for now and a double load of towels are waiting to be put away in the airing cupboard before the kids snafoo them all again. Poor Steve has come down with a very sore throat and aching joints but bless him, he has been doing all the cooking so far and helped me a lot around the house. I will be very sorry when he goes back to work. It has been lovely having him home.

Hope you all have a good day today whatever you are up to, take care xx
• Morning DUMPLING and all to follow. I have been laid awake since 3.00 with my mind churning over things I can do nothing about. I thought I may as well get up and do something useful instead of mulling stuff over.

It has also occurred to me that I haven't had any fresh air since before Christmas, other than getting into and out of DD's car when too-ing and fro-ing down to her house. So today I am thinking I might get the bus into town and then the bus onwards to Ilkley and have a wander round. I shall avoid looking in any sales and food shops as there is nothing at all I need. (Except maybe some black trousers/jeans to fit my stumpy little legs if I happen to spot any!)

Have a good day folks and (((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely who could do with them. Take care xx

Morning :santa2:

The fridge and freezer are sorted, I'm going to make a start on the cupboards today. I say cupboards but I have no intention of getting stuck into a big job – what I actually mean is one cupboard, then I might do another tomorrow if I'm in the mood :D

I'm going to cook some mini pizzas and sausage rolls, those and the other picky food in the fridge means no-one will have to cook meals for the next few days if they don't want to. I could do with buying some fresh bits, I don't want to go out today so will stretch things out til tomorrow.

Miss tru has the day off. I'm not sure if she has plans, if she's not doing anything I'll ask her if she'd like a mini party. Just the two of us, with snacky food, a bottle of wine, a bowl of chocolates and a film :D

• Morning all and thank you for starting us off Dumpling. Your plans sound very positive and organised.

I slept until 5.30, 7 whole hours so am hoping not to be fighting sleep today. Came down to a scene of carnage and have assisted many sweetie wrappers in their migration binwards.

I have washing going round in the machine and more to do as I've not kept up with that over the holiday period, need to get my act together now.

I always feel that the early morning is my time and then later I will do the tidying, cleaning already done yesterday, and then I can read in peace.

Sending my thoughts to those of us who are unwell, sad or worried.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
• Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off dumpling

TA hugs.

Been awake a while, just sitting in the dark.

Usually see mother today but not sure if we're going.

Take care all
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself enjoying first peaceful cuppas, although I'm showered, dressed and just finished brekkie, as I'm working this morning.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. I had packet of frozen giant couscous with veg.

I got a food shop done yesterday, so we're now stocked for the next few days, my parents are supposed to be coming for lunch tomorrow and then DH's parents on New Years Day. I also got some washing and drying done, sorted and put away, still can't seem to find the bottom of the dirty wash basket though!

Keep safe and well x

Good morning all,

Dumpling, good luck with your plans - they sound very positive. There's a real life story in the latest SW mag about a man who had the same issues with his legs as you do but he lost some weight and managed to fix it. I put 5.5 lbs on this week when I was weighed so I'm back on it now and trying to eat healthily. I am also an alcohol free zone as I have my liver function test next Thursday. Please message me if you get fed up - we can support each other.

TA when you're lying awake start hatching plans for the future. It's often hard to contemplate your future at this point but I believe that you are a positive person who will make the most of what you do have. If you fancy getting a train over to Liverpool for a browse in the charity shops here then I'm your woman.

Tru your party day sounds wonderful.

The cat slept in her cat bed in the HT's room all last night so we didn't mind being woken up at 7 by her bellowing "It's BREAKFAST TIME hoomans" at the top of her voice. She lies on her back with her paws in the air to show her advanced state of starvation which would work better if she wasn't the same shape and colour as Pusheen the cartoon cat :rotfl:

Today's jobs include putting the tree away and a basket full of washing. The tree has stayed up longer than usual as I've quite enjoyed it this year. The knitted fairy lights on the mantel piece look so pretty that I'm tempted to leave them. I think I'll have another coffee before I get started though :D I'm getting a great nephew in April and I'd already started a blue blanket last week before the scan that confirmed his gender so I'll probably do a bit of that too in between knitting hats.....

Nannyw I hope you're feeling a bit better today. My bestie has that cough and cold and I was really worried about him driving the 80 or so miles home earlier this week. I offered to drive over to fetch him before Crimbo and take him back afterwards but he insisted he was ok and he wasn't. Please put your feet up, stay warm and drink plenty (of anything - it is Christmas after all).

Take care all of you :)

Morning folks.

Great to hear from you dumpling and with such positivity shining through. I hope that some corners have been turned for you.

Love the idea of a mini party tru, much more fun than a bigger one.

TA - have a fab time wandering around.

Cranky - I was just thinking about all the pretty lights in trees and hedges as I drove home the other day. It would be lovely if they were kept all year.

Today I'm going back down to DM's. She's still not eating much and losing weight. Her GP visited her yesterday and phoned me afterwards. The MRI scan showed no evidence of anything abnormal in her digestive system to account for the pain she's experiencing. Also the continuing breathlessness is still a worry. The doc has referred to another hospital department.

On a more positive note the daughter of my favourite cousin has sent me a 'hold the date' card for her wedding in May. It'll be in Berlin which is such a beautiful city and I'll get to see some family again. I used to go over every year though that's slipped in recent times.

There's been gales raging all night, such high winds and torrential rain, all sounds calm now.

I wish everyone a happy Saturday.
• Good morning fellow OSers, thanks for the start dumpling. Your plans sound really good.

For those of us who like having a review of the year and a place to put plans and goals for the year ahead, I can recommend a free booklet you can print out. Here's the link:

https://yearcompass.com

This will be my fourth year of using it. I print off the A4 size and keep my past and present versions in a folder. In past years I've got together with friends and we've enjoyed doing it together, but this year I'll be doing it solo, probably this evening.

Coffee club this morning, then a quick visit to the local M&S. Yesterday I took back the gift item that was two sizes too large, and ordered a pair of trousers which will be available after 12.00 noon. I also took back to Joules a pair of fingerless gloves, not something I have a use for as I prefer my fingers fully covered, and not in my colour palette. So the resulting gift card will be put toward something I need at a future date.

It sounds like we're all getting back into routines of work / home based activities. I always feel after Christmas that in some way we've turned a corner, though there's still a long way til Spring.

Wishing you the best day possible, wherever you are. xxx

Good morning all, dry outside, but not sure how warm/cold, it was 11 degrees C yesterday, most unseasonable.

Dumpling thank you for the new thread, I hope that you and Lee can support each other through weight loss, even a few extra pounds makes my joints more painful.

TA and SilverOldie, so sorry that your sleep patterns are playing up, hope that you both have a good day today.

Tru love the sound of the party, does Scamp think he should be included?

Cranky yea to the cat having a good night, congrats on the imminent arrival of a little boy in the family.

Gers sorry that your DM seems to be fading, so difficult to witness and not be able to do anything. On a lighter note I really enjoyed watching programme on TV last night about Loch Awe.

Visited mother yesterday, sat and chatted and I did a little knitting, just a little distraction from worrying about a relative who was undergoing tests to establish how serious a problem is, still not heard anything, just hoping that "it has not spread", 3 family members with v. serious health conditions ATM, One very young, One 50's and the other just turned 60, these things to seem to happen in clusters:(:(:(

Need to pop into town for a few bits and a look around the CS, then take the decorations down, change beds etc and try and do a little (ought to be a lot) decluttering.

Wishing you all the best day possible, hugs and spoons at the ready.
