Monsoon sale

Just bought two dresses this afternoon in Monsoon (Leeds). One was on sale so happy with that. The other was full price £70 but I liked it so bought it perhaps against my better judgement. Decided to browse their website tonight as there were a couple of other items I saw and liked in the sale whilst in the shop but not it n my size. To my horror the dress I bought full price is there at half price (and in my size). Anyone know if I have any rights here to get a refund and buy the dress again for half price? Seems odd it wasn’t in the sale earlier today.
Many thanks.

Unless they offer in-store return for change of mind then no, you don't have any rights.

Bear in mind that online prices can be different to in-store ones. There's no law saying they need to be the same.

Often times a polite request to refund the difference gets the required result however.
  • Thank you boo_star. I’ve just checked their return policy and it appears to be no questions asked within 28 days of purchase. I have not worn the dress or removed the tags and still have the receipt. On this basis I think I am going to order the identical dress online and politely return the one I bought full price this afternoon. Guess in a way I’m lucky I spotted this!

  • I suggest you do those things in the reverse order. If the item has since been reduced in the store as well, they may only refund you the sale price. Best to know you've got your full refund before buying again.

Good point - but last time I returned something to Monsoon, they refunded the amount I'd paid even though the item had been further reduced in the sale because I had the receipt.

That would be an unusual refund policy and would need to be stated clearly up front. If the refund policy says an item can be returned with receipt for a change of mind (without any other caveat) then it would need to be at the price originally charged.

Many years ago I had some kind of monsoon card and if the item got reduced in the sale they would refund you.
  • Thanks for all your replies. So I returned both items to a shop today and received a full cash refund of £139. In the meantime I repurchased identical items online using a 20% discount code on top saving an amazing £55.80! That was some result.
