Parkingeye can I really ignore this pcn

I attended a 60th birthday party to show my face at our local labour club 1st visit in years, dark driving rain , I ran in and left 90 mins later I had no idea that I had to pay or register to park.
I now have a £60 pcn inc time logged photos of my reg in and out and I've since been back to check and yes there are signs around the park and a print on the door stating to register my car but I didn't see then as I wasn't looking for them ! Can I really ignore the charge and not pay ?

No, you need to read the NEWBIE thread on the front page of this forum, usually third post down. It is not dark nor raining so you should be ale to see it. icon10.gif You will find a standard appeal written in BLUE text. Send that without modifying, amending or adding to it. Then sit back and wait for your POPLA code, then write an appeal to POPLA - all help to be found in the NEWBIE section.

You most certainly can - especially if you fancy a day out at your local county court.

PE are the most litigious PPC in the entire country. They have been issuing ~30,000 court claims a year against those who have ignored their parking charge notices.

But they can be beaten, but it will involve you in some work. Start by reading the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, post #1 to set you off in the right direction.

Get back to the Labour Club and ask them to help a genuine customer on the day.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

It is the will of Parliament that these scammers be put out of business. Hopefully that will take place in the near future. The Bill has passed through the HOC without hitch, and goes to the Lords soon. In the meantime involve your MP, the poor dears are buckling under the weight of complaints about these scammers. Read this one which I wrote earlier

This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of alleged contracts for alleged parking offences, aided and abetted by a handful of low-rent solicitors. Is has been suggested by an MP that some of these companies may have connections to organised crime.

Parking Eye, CPM, Smart, (especially Smart}, and others have already been named and shamed in the House of Commons as have Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (these two law firms take hundreds of these cases to court each week), hospital car parks and residential complex tickets have been especially mentioned. They lose most of them, and have been reported to the regulatory authority by an M.P. for unprofessional conduct

The problem has become so widespread that MPs have agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers.

Sir Greg Knight's Private Members Bill to curb the excesses, and perhaps close down, some of these companies passed its Third Reading in late November, and, with a fair wind, will become Law next year.

All three readings are available to watch on the internet, (some 6-7 hours), and published in Hansard. MPs have an extremely low opinion of the industry. Many are complaining that they are becoming overwhelmed by complaints from members of the public. Add to their burden, complain in the most robust terms about the scammers.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

Please, please, please find whoever told you that a ticket from Parking Eye could be ignored and beat them around the head.

Court cases are flooding this board. It's now at the point where regulars are struggling to keep up with the amount of cases. Just look on the first page and see how many threads are asking for help defending a court case.

So many of these could be avoided by dealing with a ticket rather than ignoring it.

Don't be a muppet and deal with it. There are comprehensive instructions in the thread that tells Newbies to read it first.
