Advice on 1 late payment

Options
Hi there
Im new here and looking for some advice.
I have make a mistake with a credit card and now have 1 late payment showing.
Basically I have 2 cards from one provider - I have never used one of them so don't have a direct debit set up on it. Anyway, I used it about 2 months ago but didn't make a payment as I thought it was the other card which is on direct debit. I did get a text saying I needed to make a payment - which I ignored cause I thought its fine, its on a direct debit, must be a mistake. I didn't realise what happened until I got a default letter. So ive paid the balance now but obviously it has registered as a late payment.
Can I do anything about this- add a notice of correction ? Will it make a massive difference to my score? Ive never had a late payment before Im assuming even one isn't good?
Any advice would be appreciated?
thanks
Caro

It won't make a major difference but that is why you need to set up a direct debit for the minimum payment on all credit cards.

Don't panic if your 'score' does change a bit - mine seems to go up and down with the weather.

What would you like a notice of correction to say?
"Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."
  • Personally, I would not bother with a Notice of Correction. I would instead, appeal to the goodwill side of their customer care team. I would say it was a one-off error on your part and will not re-occur. Apologise and grovel profusely, wish them a happy xmas and new year. Be nice and they may remove the 'late payment' marker from your credit file.

Edit: Welcome to the forum and happy xmas :)

  • What would the NOC say?
"I done messed up but I won't do it again".

It's one Late Payment marker - it will have less impact over time

With one provider this month mine went down 20 pts and back up again in 14 days, with no changes to my credit accounts.
