We pay a lot for our fish n chips in london usually 2 times weekly. But with the seasons the chips become dry and feels like we wasted our money as chips are dry.0

Yes I do too. I have a kind of shed attached to the outside of the house. Officially, an 'outhouse' and there is a loo in there as well (different room)! But the shed I've renamed my tool room as I keep heaps of tools and stuff in there. Also doweling for the flags I make! It has two air bricks into the car port so it's as cold as can be, even in the summer. I keep a lot of my veg in there - carrots, onions, garlic and, of course, taters. It's also dark in there too but it doesn't seem to make a scrap of difference. In the early days in my house, I'd grow taters in my garden but not many so they never lasted me long. Can't seem to win.
Good point about them being washed though and about supermarket spuds being very old when we get them. Never thought of that.

I always take my veg out of the plastic wrapping.
Years ago, my ma would buy loose spuds from a big paper bag in the local shop still covered in dirt.
I never saw any sprout or go mouldy but then again she only bought what she needed.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -
However it’s also warmer now than most winters. Few Christmas ago I was storing thinks in polystyrene boxes in the garden as they stayed frozen
Are you keeping them in a hessian sack ?One day I might be more organised...........

Actually no, I'm not. Good thought though. I'll do a search and see where I can get some!
Thank you for the suggestion

You can actually get a special tatter bag, its lined with black fabric, you put your spuds in the top and tighten the drawstring, there is a zip on the side take out the spuds you want and zip the bag up again.
Since I have had mine I have had no more problems with them sprouting.

Yes potato sacks also doable if you can’t get hessian. Seen those in Poundland

Yes hessian sacks work well. Put the potatoes in the sacks immediately after you get them. My local B&Q had a clearance sale of small hessian sacks a few years ago. I got one for 50p. Thinking back I should have bought more.
I was once involved in the design of a potato storage shed for a farmer. If I remember correctly the ventilation and temperature inside the shed is controlled very carefully. The potatoes can be stored for months and sold in the off-season when prices go up.0
