How To Dispute Default On Credit Report

Are you sure the tenant didn't put it in your name to avoid paying? All sounds a bit fraudy0

Facknats: the gas supplier said they opened the account in the names of 4 tenants, a few years after I moved out.
Guessing the liable tenant wasn't paying so they wanted to chase other tenants too.
May have been the landlord who gave them the names.
Unfortunately I can't get tenancy agreements from 2011 to prove I moved to a different property.
Property owner doesn't have them, nor does the letting agent (who was bought by Countrywide a few years ago anyway).
This was over seven years ago so I guess no one is obliged to keep those records.
Best I can do is get something in writing by the property owner of the house I moved to, confirming when I moved in.0 -
They're asking me for meter readings now, from a property I moved out from over 7 years ago, and where I was never liable for the gas bill.
This seems to be going nowhere and I feel like I'm having an email conversation with a robot.0 -
You need to raise a complaint with them
You will then get a call back from the complaints team who are in the UK (not that that matters).
They will then either resolve it for you, or send out a letter of deadlock and you can then go to the ombudsman0 -
Thanks Gary,
I raised a complaint and spoke to a human being on the phone.
They're removing the default from 2014 from my credit report.
They checked the electoral roll and found I'd moved in 2011 and didn't need a tenancy agreement.
There may still be an issue with money owing between 2009-2011 but the person I spoke to wasn't sure.
So, progress.
Thanks again for everyone's assistance.0 -

Well they know you resided there. What did the tenancy agreement say about payment for utilities.0 -
Good news.
I had a similar issue with them before and their e-chat were no good and their normal telephone customer service team aren’t equipped to deal with these sort of complaints.
The complaints team is a dedicated team who know how to deal with these types of queries and helped me a great deal0
