  • Sorry to hear you weren't successful

It seems that in many instances because of the cheaper min wage employers seem to go for the younger applicants
The charity work is a great idea and shows you aren't work shy and also keeps you busy

Are there any agencies you can register with for warehouse temping work and the like ?

I think that will have to be my next step. I’ll pop into the city tomorrow and go round the agencies. Thank you for the suggestion.

Firstly I'd say see if you can get from feedback from interviewers (sometimes its difficult and most the time refusal), but its worth a polite email reply thanking for the opportunity, asking for feedback and reiterating interest in working for the company and your interest in future roles.

Hi Sam! Thank you for your detailed advice. Yes I have contacted both companies and received a refusal from them. I imagine most companies would give a general feedback of ‘we didn’t think you were the best fit for our company at this time’ or ‘we had a high number of good applicants’. I can’t image they would give detailed feedback anyway. Probably for the best. I just need to keep hoping someone will give me a shot soon.

Sometimes you can get lucky and its always worth a shot so nice one for following up. But yes for most its the generic response.

I have in the past cheekily asked for my interviewers business card, then follow up with a thank you email (they usually reply) and if I hear negatively from the HR, email directly to see if they will provide some tailored feedback... These were for office roles however and I imagine easier to do that kind of thing than for retail jobs.

Keep at it and the hard work will pay off. Definitely see if you can contact an agency or recruiter of some kind.
  • I’m out of the starting gate! :j

In the past 2 weeks I’ve had 4 interviews, a trial shift and been offered a job, which I accepted. I negotiated my contract and managed to get more basic hours - a 24hr contract rather then a 16hr which was what was advertised. Some more security as the other jobs were all 0hr contracts. It’s a good hourly rate too. I start last week of January.

I’m over the moon! This means I’ll be able to pay my rent again. I was also able to find some free online courses to better my key skills in the subjects I want to expand on. I’m hoping these will help me get freelance work on the side so to start paying off my debt come end of February. Finally things are looking up :T
