Happy New Year!
Sold 2 items on eBay last night totalling £13 - early sale end as the offers were good. I always go Sunday to Sunday with my items because that’s the best day for people to chill and browse eBay. They had been items I tried to sell in the past but didn’t shift. So set the offer button to on and it worked. Not bad for the 1st of 2019.

I’ve got the last shift of my temporary Xmas job tomorrow which gives me £100 at the end of this month, but I’ll count that into my percentage in the 2019 1% challenge once I’m paid it. It shouldn’t count as earnings from my main job because I’ll be getting another pay packet in my new job.
I probably won’t write in here again until Thursday when I can share how my job interview goes. It’s for an Assistant Store Manager position. Plus I have another interview on Friday as a backup but would prefer the latter. Fingers crossed for meTotal debt 12/18 £9365.74 | Now: DEBT FREEHouse Deposit 11/21 £11,192 | Need £25k0 -

doingitanyway THANKS! :j I have an optimistic outlook as I’m grateful for what I already have. My DH looks at others who are doing well and only sees how he is not and feels bitter. I see their methods, hard work and persistence to get there and feel fuelled to act. Thank you! Today’s went well, looked promising, made them laugh and asked a lot of questions which they were impressed with. Told I’d hear back by Friday next week. Next interview tomorrow for my second job of choice.
If I get an offer from today’s interview I’ll still need a second evening job to pay off my debts.Total debt 12/18 £9365.74 | Now: DEBT FREEHouse Deposit 11/21 £11,192 | Need £25k0 -
Job Interview update
To say I’m upset would be an understatement. I didn’t get an offer from either the positions I interviewed for. I’ve been continually applying for jobs throughout but have no other interviews lined up right now. It’s a difficult time of year to get work I know.
I’m living off credit cards and my partners wage which doesn’t cover both of our living costs but won’t be accepted for benefits, hence the credit cards. Being in my 30’s and having a varied background on my CV of retail and hospitality I think isn’t helping. Plus I don’t have any upto date education. My higher education finished in 2004! I can’t afford to get on any courses but I’m going to look into some free online courses. I volunteer at my local charity shop right now a few days a week so I can have an upto date reference but as yet not even needed it because the few interviews I am offered I’m not passing.
I’m confident, always have questions prepared and easy to get along with. My mum has told me to dye my hair! I’m blonde but really? This shouldn’t be a factor. I feel I’m just falling short as the interviews always seem to go really well but then I don’t get an offer. I’m applying for Sales Assistant roles but being told I’m over experienced, applying for Assistant Manager retail but not getting interviews. I’m literally trying everything. I’m even applying for Store Manager roles, coffee shops, cleaning, walking dogs, factory work the lot. There’s nothing I won’t apply for.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.Total debt 12/18 £9365.74 | Now: DEBT FREEHouse Deposit 11/21 £11,192 | Need £25k0 -
Hi,
Didn't want to read and run.
Sorry you didn't get the jobs you went for, the right one will be just around the corner.
Big hugs xx0 -
Sorry to hear you weren't successful
It seems that in many instances because of the cheaper min wage employers seem to go for the younger applicants
The charity work is a great idea and shows you aren't work shy and also keeps you busy
Are there any agencies you can register with for warehouse temping work and the like ?0 -

Firstly I'd say see if you can get from feedback from interviewers (sometimes its difficult and most the time refusal), but its worth a polite email reply thanking for the opportunity, asking for feedback and reiterating interest in working for the company and your interest in future roles.
If its a case of not getting invited to interview then I reckon a revamp of your CV might be helpful. Ensure everything is up to date, and it seems like a pain and lots of effort, but on your CV ensure you're mentioning in your previous jobs how the things you did furthered your own skills but also how you benefited the company (demonstrating the value you can bring to the role your applying for). Lots of people don't bother and hopefully will make your CV (and you!) stand out.
If its interviews you're struggling to get past then its all practice. If you can't get the feedback then reflect on your last ones and think about how you can improve for the next ones.
I don't think modern education would make a difference; the most important is your experiences. Don't be afraid to highlight gaps in your employment due to your health. Retail and hospitality are closely related and your experience sounds like tailors towards customer service roles. You will have transferable skills though that apply to many jobs so, again sit down and reflect on the skills you have developed from previous roles and how can they apply to the roles that you are applying for. Tailoring your CV/applications to the role you are applying for is key in my opinion! Lots of people blanket apply. Why this job (why is it right for you and why are you right for them). May seem over the top, but you will stand out hugely.
Keep at it and good luck!0
