Switching question

Options
I am with EDF and my plan ends 31st Dec. I have applied to switch to Bulb. Should I change to a new tariff with EDF so that they don't put me on one with exit fees as I don't think the switch will happen in time? or maybe I'm going about this the wrong way? I have not done this before so a bit clueless.

Bulb do not choose the tariff - you chose - which one was it ?

Have you had an email acknowledgement from Bulb ?

You have 14 days from the date of application to cancel.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • No I mean do I have to go onto a new tariff with EDF before the 31st when my current one is up as the switch won't have taken place with Bulb before then and I'm worried EDF will stick me on another tariff with exit fees.

As your contract with EDF approaches expiry, you have done exactly the right thing in initiating a Switch to another supplier, Bulb

From this point forward Bulb do all the running in arranging the Switch, and few days before it takes place they will ask you for meter readings, which marks the start of your account with them and the end of EDF's

Importantly, because you arranged the Switch within a 49 day window at the end of EDF's account, they can only charge you the rates on your present contract, even though it has expired, until Bulb take over - Do not sign up for a new contract with EDF

Normally when a fixed term tariff ends the supplier puts you on their standard tariff, this has no exit fees but can be their most expensive.

Provided that your present supplier is advised by industry procedures that a transfer is in progress by tariff end date plus 20 days, then you have tariff price protection until your transfer goes through. Suppliers are not allowed to put consumers on to new fixed term contracts with exit fees unless the consumer agrees. The most likely scenario is that EDF will transfer you to its SVT on the 1st January and then add some additional credit to your Final Bill to ensure that you have not been overcharged.

  • Thank you, I'll just sit tight and wait for Bulb then.
