Trading in car at dealer - should I get it serviced?

As the title says really!

I plan to trade in my car after it is MOT'd next month. As I intend to trade it in against another car at a dealer, do I really need to get the annual service done (due at the same time as the MOT)?

Seems like a large expense on a car I will sell within weeks!

Opinions please!

M

I wouldn't. Garage may give lower PX if the schedule hasn't been adhered to though
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • When you trade it in will the lack of service effect the trade in price? I think it would depend on the age?

  • It's a 2012 Seat Ibiza Copa, 39,000 miles on the clock, immaculate bodywork. Regularly serviced.

I'm not sure of the value.

Your local mechanic shouldnt be charging you much more than £50-60 for an oil and filter change, if he has the car already for MOT prep. As such i'd probably get it done just for completeness.

A better question might be "should I be trading it in?". It's only just run in. Is it no longer suitable?

When my wife traded in her Kia at six years old the service was due. We had actually booked it in for the service the following week but the garage told us not to bother as they would service themselves it before reselling it. A condition of the RAC warranty they offered, apparently. The car still had a year of the Kia warranty left.
