Claimant's insurers contacting me directly

Hi there,
Twice now I've had letters from the claimant's insurers regarding a car accident which was my fault. The first time I contacted my insurers and was told to scan the letter and send it to them, which I did and they confirmed receipt of it. Now a month or so later, I've received another letter threatening action of the claim isn't resolved. Why should they be contacting me and not my insurer? This is causing some real stress in my household! Please any advice will be gratefully received.

    Not your problem , you've done all you can

    They have your insurance details , they need to deal with them directly , not you

  • Thank you. Although they are threatening to ruin my credit rating. Contacting my insurers they say the claim was paid on 28th November.

    The insurer is your argent but you caused the accident, hence you are ultimately responsible should your insurance not pay out. Just keep sending the letters to your insurer

    You were the negligent party so any court claim would be against you, not your insurer, although your insurer should pay any costs as a result.

    Real stress? You've received two letters, as previous, redirect to your insurers.

    You could make a formal complaint about their behaviour. Might be a few quid in it for you.

    You won't get compensation for an insurer sending a standard letter warning that if their client isn't paid they will come after you for the costs

    Just keep sending anything you get to your own insurers. Do not enter into any correspondence with the other side's insurer by letter, email or telephone. The reason for this is that you could say something that would damage your own case and thus increase the amount that your own insurer's will have to pay the other side.
