in Credit cards
I applied for a lot of credit cards and only got one from Capital one!.
I am nearly debt free and only owe a few companies money, but they will be paid off by the end of the year.
My credit rating is really awful and I’ve only got my self to blame, but I want to change all that and improve my rating.
I’ve got my Capital one classic visa and I’ve paid off the full amount, every time a statement comes in I will do the same.
Has anyone else been in the same boat, and by having a classic one visa and by paying off the full amount, you found out it really helped your credit rating?
Say you applied for a lot of credit cards? And you only got one from Capital one or Barclays’ Did you find that after being a good customer that you where getting offers from the banks that turned you down, and had got accepted as before you got turned down?.
If banks turn you down and they see Capital one and Barclays’ have given you a card, and they see good payments for 12 months, would they try and steal the customers?.
It would seem a dirty trick to do when Capital one and Barclays’ gave you a chance in the first place?
And then because you’re a good payer? Come in and nick you off them.
Thanks for the answers
Darren

You are on the right track. Keep it.
Don't expect that companies that turned you down will keep a check on your credit files later and will offer you something in future. First ask C1 to increase your credit limit in half a year. Then after another 6 months (at least) you can try to apply for other card. If turned down again a couple of times, stop applying and wait another 6 months. And never miss payments. The best way is to set up a Direct Debit on your current account for full payment. And be carefull with overdraft, mobile bills etc.0 -
There is lots of truth in this. Nobody wants to be the first to take the risk but they all want you once you have demonstrated you have reformed.boogiemaster wrote:If banks turn you down and they see Capital one and Barclays’ have given you a card, and they see good payments for 12 months, would they try and steal the customers?.

Note that the other companies do not do credit searches unless you make a credit application. Indeed you do not want them to as each search damages your rating slightly. So you will not be approcahed out of the blue with a guarenteed offer (although they often word their junk mail to make it sounds as if it is guarenteed). It just means that in the future you will have a better chance of being accepted.
Also be aware your credit history goes back 6 years so it takes a long time for everything to be forgiven. However they obviously attach much more importance to what you have done recently than in the distant past.0 -
My credit rating is awful because nobody will give me a decent credit card.
I have taken out a couple of loans and I haven’t missed a payment, I also pay more than the amount they want each week.
I’ve taken out the loans to also improve my credit rating, I’ve asked the loan companies if they send info to the credit ref agencies and they do, they said if I keep up with my repayments they will put in a few good words on my file for me.
I want to rebuild my credit and learn from my mistakes, hopefully paying back Capital one and the loan companies will make my file look a lot better.
Thanks for the replies and thanks to ReaperI'm not poor i'm just skint0
