I dont know the age of the children (most likely missed it)
if they are old enough get them to look at lots of board games on line and then to make up their own perhaps using their maths skills - if all of you make one you can play each others. keep them as a future resource
    Emergency fund £10,000

Good Luck. Wishing you well also.

Post that SOA. The advice is often surprising even if you just save a little bit.

How you getting on @Blue Monday Girl?
  • BM - Firstly, well done for taking a step back to realise where you're at with the debt. If you'd left it 6 or 12 months, think how much worse it could have been.

Like you my diary kept me fully motivated throughout the task of becoming debt free and you're in good hands here.

Eating out can be a huge expense, especially if it's for lunch every day. It's all about changing habits and preparing. Lot's of nice, healthy and cheap packed lunch recipes. I've been having a big bowl of homemade soup for my lunches the last few months. So instead of spending £6 every day (£120 a month) I pay for my ingredients through the weekly grocery shopping.

I've subscribed and will be looking forward to seeing you smash it this year!
  • I agree speckysquarehead - even a so called “cheap meal”out using a discount voucher still very much adds up.

Well we have been very good with our spending and stuck to our family meal plans. All lunches have been prepared before work and I can really see the difference in our bank balance. Normally we’d be living in our overdraft by now but currently we’re still very much in the black!! Money saved will be promptly sent towards paying our debt and building up an emergency fund.

I can’t thank people on this forum enough. Everyone is such an inspiration and so kind and knowledgeable in their advice.

Onwards and upwards....were in it for the long run!

  • Great news that you're seeing the benefit so early on and hopefully that will provide extra motivation going forward - not that you need it!

    Have a good weekend.
  • Still keeping our heads down and pushing through January. Such a long month until the next pay day. Luckily we’re still in the black. Menu planning still going well. Long walks for fitness with the hounds.
I had abit of a wobble at the weekend and really wanted to go out and spend....on anything - it didn’t matter what- it really felt like the right / comfortable thing to do. However I kept thinking of the progress we’ve made so far and stayed away from the shops. Changing our mindset is going to be one of the biggest challenges going forward.

  • Oh wow. Well done for recognising your impulse and fighting it.

And look at that - you're bank balance thanks you for it too. Keep up the awesome work. Couple of weeks to go!!
