ESA Help

Hello there. I was wondering if I could have some advice.

I’m currently recieving ESA due to having treatment for stage 4 cancer.

What I want to know is:

1) what do I do when my sick note is running out

2) how do I find out when my sick note is running out

3) do they contact you before your sick note runs out

4) how do I go about sending in a new sick note the esa people.

I know that’s a lot of questions but I really don’t know what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

  • Your GP should be able to tell you the dates on your last note, might be an idea to photo copy them in future. Have you looked into claiming PIP?

Do you know if they contact you before your current note runs out

DWP send you a reminder letter but it's also your responsibility to make sure you know when your fit note it due to end, so that you can send another in.

When the fit note is due to run out the you'll need to see your GP so they can give you another one.

Once you've had the work capability assessment a decision will be made on your claim. If you're placed into one of the groups then you won't need to send anymore fit notes in. Until a decision is made then you'll need to continue to send them.

When the time comes, you can submit your fit note via a smartphone or PC these days. https://www.gov.uk/send-fit-note

When you receive the Capability for Work questionnaire if cancer is your only illness and youy are receiving or recovering from radiotherapy or chemotherapy you only need to fill in the first few pages and get the last page completed by a member of your medical team. You can ignore most of the form.

You should not have to have a face to face assessment. You should automatically be placed in the Support Group from the 14th week of your claim
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

The introduction of this service has been kept pretty quiet, I only found out by accident.
