Which card for dubious credit?

Hi all,
I'm trying to get a credit card for a short period of time - less than a year.
I have just applied for a Sainsburys card but it was refused for some reason.
My credit is not bad. I own my own home, I have a decent income, I don't miss payments on mortgage, am on the electoral role, have lived in my property for 8 years etc...
Looking at my credit reference, it does show that some years ago - about 5 years, that I had paid late on my Orange contract, this was due largely to me not really knowing how mobile phone contracts worked (my own fault), and after the first time they phoned me I gave them my card details and paid - I naively assumed this was how they took payment - duh! and so it continued like that for a while until the lady asked me why I didn't set up a DD etc...
Anyway, it seems that for some reason my credit 'score' is not high enough for Sainsburys.
Is there a card that anyone knows of that I might be accepted for.
I was accepted by BT 2 days ago after they did a credit check, so it can't be seen as all that bad by everyone.

I doubt that your credit record is 'dubious', maybe you just don't fit into the Sainsbury's demographic of who they want to lend to right now.
I got refused by them in August, the first time i'd been turned down for credit in ages. I checked my Experian credit record and it was fine. There was not even a record of Sainsbury's carrying out a credit check on there.
However I did manage to get a new Barclaycard a couple of weeks ago :T
You could try the credit card smart search here: http://www.moneysupermarket.com/cards/credit_card.asp
A word of warning though is not to apply for too many cards in one go. This can damage your credit score. It might be wise to wait a bit before applying, especially if you could survive without the card.Proud to be dealing with my debts!

Unlike MoneySavingExpert, Moneysupermarket is a profit-driven service that lists some, but not all best buys, due to its commercial relationships.
You can get unbiased credit card suggestions here on MSE, if you click on Martin's *Best Balance Transfers* article.
