  • I use wrights coal tar soap in a block or Pears or Dove I only have liquid soap for visitors as I prefer a bar of soap to liquid stuff.Sanex is excellent and I have shower stuff on prescription from my doctors since having cancer 11 years ago my skin if very fragile and I can't use a brush or anything that destroys the top layer of skin.I have lymphedema in my right arm and if I get a cut or abrasion on it I have to take anti bitics straight away which I keep a course at home permanently, or failing that I am in hospital of a drip of strong antibiotics within a day
My skin is now so tissue thin I cannot sunbathe anymore either, but `i am alive which is the upside :) Chemo cured my cancer but left some nasty after effects and totally destroyed my immune system

For anyone who wants to try out the Aldi 'luxurious' handwash it is on offer @79 pence at the moment (a few pence off the normal price.)
That compares favourably with the Molton Brown @£15 upwards!!

You might want to look at Martha Hill website because they have various soaps etc without additives which are suitable for sensitive skin with free P&P. Very probably cheaper than the Molton Brown!!

For hand cream you might want to try O'Keefe's Working Hands- comes in a green screw top tub, widely available at Boots, Superdrug etc.Lasts a long time (unscented.)

  • Molton Brown smells lively but those nice scents are simply not worth the cracked and bleeding skin it gives me. Dove do a range of liquid soaps which don't irritate my skin, their 'fine silk' one suits my skin best. Lidl do a pomegranate and something or other liquid soap which does not irritate but it doesn't moisturise. I still use an awful lot of hand cream, l'occupant she a is my favourite but I can't afford it so at present am using Palmers cocoa butter cream, that's good but you do end up smelling like chocolate. My OH reckons there are far worse smells.

The l'occitane shea butter is my favourite too but I can't justify just buying it for myself so my OH sometimes gets me a tube for Xmas. I always try to get it at the best price though. Marks and Spencer sell it so I keep an eye out for when they have 20% off.

Also a lot of the more expensive ones the scent lingers on your hands for ages.

I don't like or want that. Especially if I am going to prep food.

I use bubble bath in a old method foaming handwash bottle. Does the job for me.

  • All soap is drying to the skin, esp as we age

For myself its bar soap, cheap as chips bars of soap - lidl usually

But I use rubber gloves when doing any housework, with a pair of thin cotton gloves on underneath those, and use Neutrogena hand cream. Right now Im also using a small jar of Superdrug's Vit E superbalm on my nails but any old cuticle type oil will help, as I find the heating in the car really drying
