Cheaper alternatives?

I have just started using Molton Brown hand wash as I have heard it is good for dry skin. I was wondering if anybody knew of a cheaper, comparable alternative (please don't say Bayliss and Harding!).

This also got me thinking - what brand swaps do you know of that really work? :) The more the better!

  • I have dry skin and eczema. I use sanex 0% and a hydromel oil or epaderm cream. Far cheaper than some over priced fancy stuff. Normally the sanex is enough to keep skin ok.

    See your pharmacist!
  • The Aldi Abbott and Broome handwashes are very good molton-brown-alikes and they don't irritate my winter dry skin.

Dr Bronner liquid castile soap. Or the same brand bars are also amazing. Both liquid and bars come in many different scents, all gentle, natural and vegetable based.

I 2nd this, they are great and smell wonderful!!

Unless Molten Brown have changed, they are just as full of chemicals as other brands, sls etc.

They might have changed the ingredients but in the past it was the lovely smells and name that put the premium price tag on Molton Brown.....not the ingredients!!
  • I found Molten Brown handwash to be the worst thing for my dry hands, much prefer one without perfume, I second Sanex.
  • I believe I asked a similar question a while back and checked out a few of the suggestion..... I’m sorry but anyone that says the offerings from Aldi/Lidl ie Cien (Lidl even tries to rip off the MB bottle design) are just as good as Molton Brown are delusional.

Pay your money take your choice.
  • Not delusional, more an informed choice, sometimes it is worth working on a cost-per-wow basis (credit to Amy Dacyczyn).

I have used MB hand wash received as a gift, and yes - it is lovely.
To me, it is not 20x better than the Aldi version, perhaps only about twice as lovely, but it is 20x the price, so I'm happy with the cheaper choice as it offers a better value cost-per-wow.

Other people's personal rating of these and other products will no doubt differ, but I am always grateful for suggestions.

I read that liquid handwash dries the skin so I use Pure soap from Aldi, first time in years my hands haven't been dry, cracked and sore.
  • I've tried everything for my dry hands and no handwash would stop them drying out. The only thing that helps is a good quality hand cream. I prefer to use the lidl handwash, the milk and honey or almond oil one and then cover my hands in a thick layer of l'occitane shea butter hand cream when I go to bed. A tube lasts me absolutely ages.
